Meet Jai Got Soul

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jai Got Soul a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Jai Got Soul, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I got my resilience from my strong will. Through every obstacle in life, I willed my way to the finish line. The painful experiences, the naysayers, or even my enemies could never stop me. I’ve been in many positions to create my own lane and I drove each lane as far as the road would take me until the road ended. I continued to recreate myself and create more lanes throughout my career which lead me to the space that I hold now as an Independent Entrepreneur.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am grateful for the invitation to share my story on this platform. I am a freelance writer, podcast co-host, and serial entrepreneur. I specialize in uplifting my community by using my unique talents. I am the founder of Jai Got Soul Studio LLC the home to the Black Money Matters Act Like It brand. Jai Got Soul Studio is an edutainment content creation studio. We create content educating our community about money management tools such as personal budgeting, wealth building, and how mental health impacts one’s ability to build wealth. Black Money Matters Act Like It is a financial literacy clothing brand and financial coaching service.

On December 8th, 2022, we filed Black Money Matters Act Like It as the official DBA of our clothing brand and credit counseling service. Our mission is to rebuild the black wall street of the digital age. We execute our mission using our free Now Act Like It digital worksheet to help clients develop a practical personal budget and consider building wealth. We educate from a trauma-informed lens to help our clients navigate how overwhelming money management can be. We purpose to build a black business directory which we utilize to develop a viable referral system to bring awareness to other like-minded businesses whose mission is to build a healthy and sustainable community.

In November 2022, we launched our credit counseling service, we offer personal budgeting assistance, credit counseling, and quality referral services in the greater Los Angeles area. Through our viable referral system, we have the opportunity to connect our community with community-based businesses. This past year, we partnered with Vermont Slauson Economic Development Corporation (VSEDC) and they offered us an opportunity to share the brand at a few of the largest festivals in Los Angeles. We appeared at the Women’s Health Expo hosted by KJLH. We serviced the Leimert Park community for the Leimert Park Juneteenth Festival. And lastly, we had the opportunity to share the brand at the Taste of Soul Family Festival. In 2023, we plan to host informational and edutainment events for youth and adults. We will relaunch our podcast after a 1-year hiatus, and we will release some new items from our clothing brand.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

One quality that is impactful for me in my personal journey is consistency. A powerful skill that is impactful in my business journey is effective communication. The most important area of knowledge that is impactful in this business journey is money management principles.

My advice to my peers that are in the early stages of the game is to plan before you execute. A business plan before you start to operate is very important to develop. In the early stages of my business, I had an idea and I rushed my process. Since then, I learned that planning, strategizing, and executing should have an equal amount of time and attention.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always looking for folks to partner and collaborate with that have a network, or client base similar to ours. We believe that in collaborations, it is important that our missions resonate with one another to ensure that we are effective in the collaborative execution. We have the capability to reach a wide range of customers that can benefit from our unique model.
