We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jaicko Lawrence a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jaicko , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I’d say ultimately my resilience comes from the Lord . By His Grace…..I’ve seen how he as used the trials and hardships over the course of my life to form that in me . One of the things I’ve found most is that resilience has everything to do with losing and at the same time , everything to do with your perspective on loss . You may lose in some battles but it doesn’t mean you’ve lost the war…
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a singer / songwriter/ producer. I’ve loved the art form ever since I had a consciousness. My parents always encouraged me as a child because they noticed i took a very keen interest. I was 9 years old when that interest peaked. By then my father whom also was passionate about music , had already been very successful in his career as a musician. I believe it was instinctive for me to follow in his footsteps.
He took me under his wing and by 17 years old I signed to Capitol Records as a solo artist , worked with some of the industry’s best and traveled the world performing. When I turned 23 I became a follower of Jesus and from then I’ve been focused on using my expression of art to bring Glory to his name .
This year our team is working on some very exciting projects to promote the message of Love and Hope that the world so desperately needs . All the while, making some of the “dopest” content ever heard and seen !
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Professionally speaking , being able to write , record and produce my own music has been the most impactful quality and skill set I’ve developed . It has kept me cutting edge and efficient in an industry where you have to be able to deliver quickly !
Personally speaking , being true to self In other words I am adamant about not compromising my moral beliefs or violating my conscious for the sake of gain. I’d rather lose a dollar than to lose integrity.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Take a break . Most of the times we have more time than we think. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life but sometimes you just need a moment to unwind or reset . Have a hobby !
