Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jaimie Bess. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jaimie, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
I have so much to say about self care! From my perspective, it is one of the most important factors in finding overall success in life.
Exercise! There is no getting around this. Exercise is proven to positively impact our physical and mental health. It’s also “me time” A time in the day where I am the focus. After a good workout I make healthier choices, I feel pride, and I feel more alert and productive.
Meditation! I know this is starting to sound cliche….but it’s true. Meditation changed my life. So much so that I became a Sound Bath Mediation coach. In my personal practice, I do anywhere from 5 to 45 minutes of meditation/or breathwork a day. Sometimes it’s a full on ritual. And sometimes it’s a quickie. It reconnects me to myself. Not even just myself, but the higher version of myself. And the more I stick to my meditation, the more I bridge the gap between myself and my highest self. I am more productive yes, but also more creative, more confident, more connected, move loving. Meditation is not about emptying your mind, but about noticing yourself, your thought patters, your subconscious. If there is anything you take from this, please let it be a meditation practice!
Setting boundaries. This can be overlooked easily. But the more aware I am about setting boundaries and how it impacts me and my effectiveness, the more I realize how much of a game changer it is. For me this looks like putting my phone on silent when I am working, spending time with loved ones, and in meditation. Which basically means my phone is almost always on silent lol. I do not need the constant pings distracting me. I will check my phone when I can, and get back to you. It also means saying no to things that are not a hell yes. I have gotten really good at feeling in my body if something is a hell yes or not. I’ve embodied this behavior so much, I don’t even think I let people down anymore, because the people around me are so receptive and respectful of how I operate and the importance of protecting my time and energy. It helps that I pretty much never get fomo! When I am home alone, candles lit, reading a book, I know I am exactly where I need to be.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I have quite a few professional endeavors. I host sound baths and wellness events for corporate companies, ceremonies, festivals, and privates. For more information or inquiries you can go here https://jaimielee.my.canva.site
I also create content for brands, experiences, and air bnbs. Most of my work is focused on wellness, lifestyle, and travel. This is my favorite creative outlet. And I LOVE entrepreneurs, so I love helping brands bring ideas and concepts to life and creating content that helps call in their dream clients and community. If you’re a brand seeking experienced content creators you can check out some of my work here https://jaimieleeugc.com
I also co-founded a functional mushroom supplement company called Fun Earth Co. I imagine most people are familiar with the rise of the mushroom space by now. Think Lions Mane for the brain, Chaga, Reishi, Turkey Tail etc. We have delicious blends of mushrooms that improve focus, sleep, and health. If you are LA based you can find us in placed like Rose Venice, Zinque, or Alfreds Coffee. We have some really great at home products on our website. The Mushroom Mocha is my favorite 🙂
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Know your WHY! If you choose to start a business or endeavor, why. For me for my sound baths for example, I want to hold space for people who would like to explore their inner world, because I know the importance of meditation. I want to play a small role in the up level of our collective consciousness. And when the behind the scenes parts of building this business becomes challenging, I remember why I’m doing it in the first place. Which gives me motivation.
2. Time blocking. Since I juggle so much, and wear a lot of hats, I really need to see in my calendar which hat I need to wear at what time. Otherwise it can all be so overwhelming. I use google calendar, and I block time for everything. Editing, filming, pitching, events, even breaks, workouts, and meditation are in my calendar. It seems constricting at first but ultimately it gives more freedom!
3. Have mentors. Oh my gosh this should actually be number 1. Find mentors with experience in what you are focusing on. I did this by networking. I have a hand full of mentors I call my “board of advisors” I met a few at events and a few on social media. After creating an organic connection with them, I asked them if I could stay in touch and reach out of support occasionally. I don’t bug them often. As questions come up I write them down, and when I have a good amount, I schedule a call with one of them. I make sure it’s quick and efficient. And I always check in with them to see how I can support them in what theyre working on. My mentors are incredible, full of wisdom, and they believe in me, which motivates me to work hard and prove them right about me! I have also found mentors on a website called https://www.micromentor.org
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
So many books!
1. Tribe of Mentors by Tim Ferris
2. A ride of a lifetime, a story about Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney. SO INSPIRING!
3. Atomic Habits by James Clear
4. Breaking the habit of being yourself by Joe Dispensa
