We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jair & Brandon Martinez-Johnson & Jackson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jair & Brandon, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
We come from humble backgrounds, hardworking families that instilled a rigorous work ethic. Teaching us that no obstacle is too big to tackle.
————————-
We come from humble and hardworking families that instilled a rigorous work ethic within us from a young age. Our parents always taught us that no obstacle is too big to tackle or handle. This taught us to always work hard for what you want to aspire to be in life, something that we both have instilled in our day to day lives more consistently as we grow older. When creating the brand, one thing we realized is that sometimes people have a great idea and are excited about it for a short amount of time which leads to the dissolution of the brand/product, and we wanted to make sure we didn’t fall into the same category, especially with something as important as helping create opportunities for others in our community. We strive to continue to develop our work ethic and inspire all of those around us.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
We have always been creatives, me and Brandon met in 2019 when we both were making a lot of art. We bonded over painting and eventually I would move to Decatur where we weren’t able to work on things together as much. I moved back to where I was before and we thought of the idea of creating a brand that could help elevate a community. We learned as much as we could in the short span of time last summer, via it be going out, networking and learning how to DJ. We were able to quickly gain the trust and support of the local DJ community in Atlanta via our consistent support and creation, which consists of filming DJ sets of various local talent as well as filming events and raves to archive the growing DJ community in Atlanta.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Realizing that no matter how hard you work, there will always be someone better than you. You just have to be willing to learn.
2. Get rid of your ego, you can’t get anywhere thinking you’re always right or that everything you do will work because trust us, it won’t.
3. Do something because you love it, and don’t expect to become rich overnight. Overnight success takes years of patience.
The biggest piece of advice we can share with everyone is to simply keep trying. Just because it seems like nothing is happening doesn’t mean someone isn’t watching and that you aren’t making progress. Keep pushing!
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
100% ! One of our biggest asset is our ability to befriend people instantly and express to them how we can help one another reach the goals we are striving for. We love helping people grow as much as we love working with new people.
