Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jakia Myles. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jakia , looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Reflecting back over my life and the earliest example I saw of a hardworker was my grandmother. She would wake up every morning at 5:00am and clean her home, get her grandkids ready for school, cook breakfast and prepare for her work day all before 8:00am. She did this every morning for over twenty years. I saw her dedicate herself to the needs of her family while going after her career dreams as an activity director at a local nursing home. In my book she is the ultimate example of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the proud owner of Pretty Women Hustle, a platform dedicated to highlighting and promoting women doing extraordinary things in business and in faith. We do this by creating and providing opportunities for women to share their story.
The most exciting thing about our platform is the ability to share hundreds of stories of women chasing their dreams while overcoming everyday obstacles set out to derail them.
Being a Pretty Woman Who Hustles is less about the physical apperance and more about the way she hustles, we feature women who overcome trials daily and they show up for their brand in the midst of chaos day in and day out.
This year we hope to continue sharing the amazing stories of women in business through our Online Publication, Magazine Publication and Podcast.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three qualities or skills that were most impactful in my journey is my ability to shift my perspective on things. Growing up in and out of the hospital due to my battle with Scoliosis taught me that my perspective is everything. I can either let my condition hinder me or propel me. So within my career I have made it my daily mission to never let anything hinder me from going after my dreams.
Secondly, the ability to talk. I have always been a talker, and one of my earliest memories in life is constantly being told to not talk so much. I was told this from family, friends, instructors etc. My need to talk constantly or the need to share what was on my mind as a young child was often looked at negativetly but in my opinion it was a quality that should have been nurtured. My ability to talk and articulate what I want and don’t want has opened so many doors for me. Being able to talk to anyone who comes my way and find purpose in the conversation even when it was meant to be negative is my superpower.
Lastly, and most importantly my knowledge and love for the word of God is a skill that I cherish. The ability to lean on my faith in the darkest times of entrepreneurship has been my lifeline and reason for staying on this journey.
My advice for new entrepreneurs would be to not so much focus on my qualities, skills and areas of knowledge but to define 2-3 areas in your life that make you different and zero in on those. Sharpen those skills, and run with it. Take this same method and copy and past in your business plan, what is your businesses super power, what sets you apart?
One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Pretty Women Hustle as a whole is always looking for new female entrepreneurs and authors to collaborate with.
