Meet Jaleesa Burroughs

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jaleesa Burroughs. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Jaleesa , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

I’m sure I inherited my resilience from my parents. They taught me that resilience comes from adaptability, learning from setbacks and adjusting rather than breaking. Because of this, I now view challenges as opportunities to level up rather than as failures and use them to strengthen myself. If something doesn’t work, I pivot. In a way, you could say resilience is ingrained in me because of them.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My name is Jaleesa Burroughs, and I am the owner of LadyBurroughs Photography. I am a published photographer who puts God first in everything I do. I love dogs and enjoy spending time with family and friends.

What sets me apart is my personality—my sense of humor and easygoing nature help models and clients feel comfortable in front of the camera. Working with me feels like having your picture taken by a friend.

I am currently a home-based photographer, but that does not diminish the quality of my work. I have everything needed to provide my clients with an exceptional session. While I occasionally rent studio spaces for specific sessions, most of my photography is done at home, creating a comfortable and relaxed environment for my clients.

When I’m behind the camera, I feel present, connected, and free to see the world in my own way. Some photos bring back memories I never want to forget; others capture feelings I can’t put into words. It’s not just about taking pictures—it’s about preserving emotions, telling stories, and seeing beauty in the everyday. Photography isn’t just something I do; it’s a part of who I am.

I am currently balancing photography with my full-time job, trusting that God will guide me when the time is right to pursue photography exclusively.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Understanding Light- Light is everything in photography. Knowing how to use natural and artificial light, manipulate shadows, and adjust exposure settings can make or break a shot.

A great photo isn’t just about what’s in the frame but how it’s arranged. Mastering composition techniques like the rule of thirds, leading lines, and symmetry helps create visually compelling images.

Knowing how to use a camera. Understanding settings like aperture, shutter speed, ISO, and focus ensures you can capture the shot exactly as you envision it.

My advice for those pursuing a photography career is to never give up and continue learning. If you reach out to other photographers and they don’t provide you with information on how to improve or grow, don’t let that discourage you. I have been in that position before, and I understand how it feels. Just keep going because people notice you.

At this point in time, I’m still learning and improving my craft every day.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

My biggest area of growth has been my confidence. I’ve come to understand that a lack of confidence is unhealthy, both for me personally and for my business. I realized that God wouldn’t have given me this talent if I wasn’t meant to believe in myself. Confidence plays a crucial role in attracting clients; I’ve learned that the more confident I become, the more open people are to asking questions or even booking my services. Over the past 12 months, my business has experienced significant growth.
