Meet Jalisa Hardy

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jalisa Hardy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Jalisa, so good to have you with us today. We’ve got so much planned, so let’s jump right into it. We live in such a diverse world, and in many ways the world is getting better and more understanding but it’s far from perfect. There are so many times where folks find themselves in rooms or situations where they are the only ones that look like them – that might mean being the only woman of color in the room or the only person who grew up in a certain environment etc. Can you talk to us about how you’ve managed to thrive even in situations where you were the only one in the room?
Being the only one in the room is something I have dealt with for years. I was always drawn to being around older kids since I have an older sister. This helped prepare me for what life would be like in the Health & Wellness industry and more recently in the world of Human Design. I got used to being comfortable with uncomfortable situations. I saw it as an opportunity to access things I would have access to in rooms where there were only people that look like me. I am attracted to energy and love so where that is I am able to look beyond what I see in the physical, to embrace and enjoy the experience. I also made sure to find and curate rooms where there are rooms of black women that look like me and have similar experiences so that I can fully let my guard down and just be. I try to keep a balance with all of the types of rooms I am in. Rooms where I am the only one, rooms where there is a mixture of types of people, and rooms where there are only people that look like me. I flow between them all with ease because I know who I am so much more thanks to Human Design. It has strengthened my relationship with God which has led to a stronger relationship with myself and others. When I am at a table I know I am meant to be there regardless of if there are people who look like me there or not. Every experience is a lesson and/or a blessing.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I want to start by saying thank you for another opportunity to share about myself and the healing medicine I have to offer the world. I shared a lot about who I am and what I do in my first interview here. I’m going to TRY to keep it short and simple this time. I’m multi-faceted and multi-passionate with a lot to offer the world! I’m on a mission to be something like the Amazon of Holistic Health resources and support. If I don’t offer it then I know or will find someone who does. I’m a connector, a healer, an intuitive guide that leads you back to your innate ability to heal yourself. You have everything you need within you in order to heal and live the abundant life you desire and most importantly deserve. I wrote about this in my book, “It’s All in Me! – My Journey to Freedom & Living Abundantly” that can be found on my website.

In my book, I share more about my life and how I am my mom’s miracle child. They told her when she was around 6-7 months pregnant that I would be born without a stomach and that my esophagus and windpipe would be fused together. If she were to make it full-term without having a miscarriage or going into labor early, then I would need multiple surgeries to even have a chance at living or having any quality of life. One nurse told her she should, “Just have an abortion”. But my mom ignored all of what the doctors and nurses had to say despite seeing proof that what they were saying was true. She went to a revival and had them pray over her and I. She said the only thing she remembered was being lifted off her feet and feeling like God was pouring gold into her stomach. Later on when she went back to the doctor they couldn’t find anything wrong with me. The whole office was in awe and some were dumbfounded. They couldn’t explain it but she knew.

Hearing this once I got older led me to have a lack of faith in Western medicine so I sought other ways to heal and heal others. It gave me a healing gift through writing, singing, connecting, coaching, energy and so much more. I realized that I not the one healing but uncovering the power to heal ourselves that we all have.

I’ve been a lifelong learner and this led me to the modality of Human Design that further solidified my belief and ability to heal myself. It’s something I want the world to know about because it has changed my life. I went as far as getting certified in it in October of 2023 in the Alignment Queen Academy by Malaine Leah Butler. In lieu of my certification I have created some new offers:

• A “Human Design Mini Reading” which is the starting point to working with me
• Organize By Design which is a program for those that want to master their flow between their different roles and responsibilities with grace and ease
• Healing through Hair, Human Design, Frequency & Food for those that desire more comprehensive and hands-on healing support

I offer so much more that you can learn about on my website and learn more about me.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I said it in my last interview but resilience still rings true for me. 2023 was one of the hardest years of my life. I went through a divorce after getting out of an abusive marriage, my 3 children had a hard time with the transition, my little brother who had just turned 24 and had a son on his birthday was shot and killed, and my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer not even 1 month later. These were the big 3 but I experienced gut punch after gut punch in 2023 where I felt like I couldn’t even get space to breathe before the next hit. But with each hit, I kept getting up. I refused to stay down.

This leads to the second thing that I will call a skill is building relationships to create a support system. Without my support system, I would not have made it through 2023 with my sanity. Being open to being vulnerable with my therapist, with friends new and old, and in group spaces has helped me to keep going when life throws me a curve ball. They encourage, empower, and hold me accountable to my commitments. They also give me space and grace when emotions take a front seat and I’m not able to get in motion the way I planned.

The third thing that I mentioned earlier is an area of knowledge, Human Design (HD). Human Design has impacted my life in every single way. I have been studying and embodying it for over a year. The person I was before HD is a completely different person to who I am today. It has helped me to heal my relationship with God, myself, and others. It has helped me to make shifts financially, business-wise, with decision-making, my environment, my parenting, and my health to name a few. It has given me the blueprint to my life so that I’m not duplicating or following anyone else’s.

The way I explain it to people is the integration of spirituality and science in order to uncover the blueprint of who you are truly designed to be. It gives you the space and grace to take off the things the world, your upbringing, and society have told you you are and step into the true you.

The best advice I can give to folks who are early in their journey of resilience, building relationships and Human Design is to connect with me to see how I can further support you in your journey!

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
When I feel overwhelmed I take a break, take a step back, or take a nap. I realized and am constantly reminded by my HD coach that being overwhelmed is a choice. This simple shift in my perception of it has made a tremendous impact.

I’m often overwhelmed when I’m thinking too far ahead or thinking about all the things I have on my to-do list or in my head to do. Organizing my roles and responsibilities in Asana, a project management tool, keeps a lot of the overwhelm at bay.

Also, doing something like deep breathing, tapping, reaching out to a friend to talk about how I’m feeling, or going for a walk in nature are other ways I deal with being overwhelmed. The more present you are the less overwhelm comes up.
