We were lucky to catch up with Jalon Norman recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jalon, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Growing up, I was raised by a single parent. My mom got up everyday & made sure she went to work. No matter the weather or her physical ability. She never asked for handouts, she just got up & got it herself. Sometimes even took advantage of overtime when I got old enough to watch myself. She never needed a man for anything.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
CheySoCustom was a business venture i’d never think would go this far. It started in 2021 when I learned how to do graphic designing for my first business venture, CheySoSeductive, an adult entertainment store. I started making my own everything, logo, flyers, promo videos, & even my own website. Then later on, I started to design flyers & invitations for parties, clubs & businesses. For my best friend’s 21st Birthday, I had the honor of designing the backdrop & decided to make custom cups with the same design on it because it was starting to be a popular thing happening in the city. It was just for fun at the time, then everyone started to ask me if i could make custom cups for their birthdays. I did more research about the business & decided to test the waters. One thing led to another, I bought my first printer & took off. Later on started doing party favors other than custom cups like custom chip bags, water bottle labels, cigar wrappers & more!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Consistency, Determination & Patience. With a business like mine, you have to want it. You never know who you’re dealing with but as long as you have patience & this is something that you want & enjoy doing, you barely have bumps in the road. Don’t give up after the smallest inconvenience, that’s a lesson learned. Be consistent in what you do because it won’t go the way you want if you keep giving up.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The Holy Bible. Without God, I am nothing. It’s important that I keep God in my life because he is the one making everything happen for me & watches over me. My favorite verse from the bible is Philippians 4:13. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
