Meet Jamaica Hobbs

We were lucky to catch up with Jamaica Hobbs recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jamaica, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?

Since a kid, I was always described as bright. Usually referring to my academic achievements, elementary and beyond. “She’s so smart, so bright”, they would cheer. Being the third born of 4, competition for attention was tough. Compliments like these went far for me. I believed them. I believed doing well, being generous, being content, and staying positive was rewarded. Rewarded seldomly, but rewarded nonetheless. I didn’t come from an emotional “survival mode”. My family loved me. Sure we had our issues. Dysfunction was no stranger, but fortunately my being the third born gave me a major leg up. I saw my older sister’s approach; rebellion, extreme angst. I saw my older brother; disregard for authority without consequence. I decided neither were my path. Perhaps it was pity for my parents. They had enough problems and didn’t need another difficult child. Perhaps it was the slight neglect that fostered possibility for me. Maybe the lack of attention was just the recipe for me to believe for more. Believe I could be more. Amidst my parent’s separation and divorce, car repossessions, my sick younger brother, and perpetual poverty, my mother always said” tomorrow will be better”. That sense of hope. Hope and faith from a young age were driving forces for me. What seems bad, really isn’t so bad. And what’s more, tomorrow will be better. I have seen the power of speaking positivity into others and lifting someone’s spirit with a word of encouragement. What weight can lift, what burden can disappear for someone. We are set free. That is why I choose to stay positive. Understanding that your perspective is your choice. An important choice that will determine your approach to life each day. How will you attack it? It’s not enough to be simply be okay. The trials of life eat “okay” for breakfast. No! We are all meant to fulfill a plan for our lives and we can’t get there without believing that our stories get better. That we get better. That tomorrow will be better.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Supreme Image Etiquette teaches elegance through etiquette. At Supreme Image, we believe women are best together, learning from one another and from previous generations of wise, sophisticated, and refined women, and women of faith. Confidence and poise are quickly becoming lost arts and Supreme Image is burden with the assignment to correct the course for women and society in turn.

Through our online course “How To Walk In Heels” and live event Dining Etiquette classes, we teach the keys to navigating exclusive environments and creating lasting positive impressions. We believe the next generation is in desperate need of the pillars of home training, good manners, the power of kindness and courtesy to thrive. Despite being engulfed by technology, people still need people. Relationships are the life blood of business and success. By teaching elegance, chivalry, public speaking, home economics, and social skills, Supreme Image Etiquette equips women to be better mothers and wives, children to be successful and esteemed, and society prospering.

I began Supreme Image Etiquette in October of 2023 after an intense night of worship. As a woman of faith, Jesus is the center of my life and this burden to help women and steward the next generation was given to me clearly. I’ve taught at Marquette University and worked with Milwaukee non-profits to share elegance, chivalry, and dining etiquette with teens and young adults. Teaching how to walk in heels is a personal favorite. As much as I’d love to teach in person each time, Most of my following is virtual and the online course is available for purchase at www.supremeimageetiquette.com. Since relocating back home to Virginia, I feel called to summon the teachers of the next generation. I alone, cannot teach all women, all teens, all children. I believe that the next step for Supreme Image Etiquette is to raise up mentors and teachers to teach the women and communities in which they are apart. Each of us has a voice that people are called to. And look on social media, the harvest is plenty and the workers are few. We need women who believe in morals and values, to instill these in our youth and our women. There is a need and it grows with every day that there are no better role models rising up to combat the negative imagery influences in our modern culture. For this reason, we will be rolling out the Supreme Image Etiquette Mentor Community. For women who believe in values and who feel called to share. But most importantly we can’t do it alone. We have to support one another and become the predominant image and influences for our children. We do this through an online community, live events, and trainings. Registration to apply to the community will roll out November 2024. Join the mailing list at www.supremeimageetiquette.com to be notified when registration opens.

Etiquette is more than which fork is which. Etiquette demonstrates respect for self and respect for others. Respect, integrity, and character build trust. And there is no success without trust.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

My most important qualities are charisma, positivity, and confidence. Growing up, we didn’t have cell phones so we watched alot of television, mostly movies and music videos. I would watch how women moved and spoke. How they walked and formed their thoughts, how they laughed. I watched and created my own version that I loved, that felt like me. I learned to like myself, and therein you will find your charisma.

In my younger years, my optimism flirted with extreme naivety. As a much wiser women, season with life experience and wise words from mentors, my positivity is a major asset. Walking as a woman of faith, my positivity is a necessary component to my hope. Hope that my work is impactful. Hope and faith in others. Without these, there is no inspiration. It is positivity and hope that allow the work I do to penetrate youth and women. My belief in them, seeing good where they may not see anything. Maintaining a positive attitude is the difference between ” I get to” and “I have to”. It’s the difference between the life you choose and the life you get. Without a bright and positive countenance, you’re just a drag. And you look like a dog when you pout! So smile, darling, smile!

I’ve always been confident. Beginning with academics, the things that were difficult for some were easy for me. Getting good grades, playing trumpet, doing hair, being social. These gave me a great foundation of self belief and self-trust. the root of the word “confidence” is “confide”. Confide means to trust yourself. I began trusting myself very early. Being one of 4, it was almost as if no one would notice if I excelled or failed and so I was afforded the ability to cultivate my own esteem without pressure. And from there my confidence has awarded me great opportunity. As i got older, I realized confidence without discipline can destroy your future. If you struggle with confidence, first focus on discipline. That will fast-track you to confidence.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

I am looking for elegant women who feel called to share. Women to join a community of elegance and sophistication and help steward a lost generation creating their own etiquette communities. Did you have a grandmother, mother, aunt, or sister that taught you the ropes? Who taught you how to keep house, how to cook, how to do your makeup and dress appropriately? We are enlisting women to share these same values to steward the next generation into success. With you as a mentor, our youth will be better mothers, and wives, children more successful and esteemed, families whole and prosperous.
