We recently connected with Jamal Rhodes and have shared our conversation below.
Jamal , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
I wholeheartedly believe that it’s been inside of the depths of my bones my entire life! I’ve always withheld creativity and the itch to be of a help to others. It wasn’t until I would move to Los Angeles my passions and purpose would become evident. I can say, I am walking in my purpose.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am Currently a Los Angeles Barber exploring the new found love for the commercial modeling industry while running a nonprofit organizations focused on the betterment of the youth of Los Angeles. I orginally started cutting hair for celebrity clientele here in LA back in 2020. During this time I created what was originally a clothing brand, Dope Human. As I expanded and reverted from serving solely celebs to opening my books to general population I also wanted to convert my clothing brand into something greater. Spending as much time as I did serving the Skid Row community, I felt I could tie my services into my brand where we would begin to provide essentials and resources to those in need. Here is where Dope Human Inc. 501(c)3 what birthed. Today we are a currently a team of four making a huge impact not only in the community but development spaces throughout LA.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Consistency, there where so many times I wanted to throw in the town when things Got rocky but I powered through. Wisdom, I like to think that a lot of my experiences along with trauma helped me develop the fortitude and determination
Faith, believing in a vision that only I could see while knowing deep down that I wouldn’t be doing it alone gave me the reassurance that I would end exactly where I worked to. be!

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes, soon our organization will be pivoting and we will offering a match making service for grade school youth. We will need to me in connection with school boards, administrations and grant opportunities and different avenues to potentially receive funding to help keep our programs afloat.
