We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jamar Matthews a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jamar, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I would say I got my work ethic from my family. Growing up, I saw many family go out and work countless hours to provide for the household. One person that stood out to me in the family was my grandfather. He worked a regular job throughout the week and he had his own lawn care business that he worked on the weekends. I can recall many times growing up, that I wanted to go with work him. He allowed me to go with him as I got older and I loved how he operated the business. We would start early Saturday mornings to beat the heat. He made sure every customer satisfied and he also made sure the work was done to perfection.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am currently in the supply chain field within the corporate world. I love my profession because I enjoy solving complex problems and optimizing processes to improve efficiency. I am also an entrepreneur and own a 360 photo booth business, where I specialize in creating videos and producing long-lasting memories for clients. I have always wanted to start my own business and build something I could truly call my own. The idea came during COVID, when everything was shut down and people were in isolation. I realized that photography is an industry that will always exist, and the 360 photo booth added a unique twist to it. Lastly, I am passionate about giving back to the community. I coach YMCA basketball during the fall at the Decatur YMCA, and pouring into others is something I truly enjoy. I’ve been doing for over 3 years and wouldn’t trade it for nothing in the world.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three skills or area knowledge that has been impactful to my journey is:
Being disciplined
Having the courage to take constructive criticism
Being a risk taker
Everything you go through in life is a lesson, never a loss. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. It’s apart of the process. You must have faith a small as a mustard seed. My advice to anyone would be to do the unthinkable. Do what people said you couldn’t do or accomplish. Use the negativity to fuel your flames.

How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client is anyone who have any events. My overall goal is to bring the fun and entertainment to any event someone my host. Birthday parties, weddings, corporate events, etc.
