Meet Jamaya Fleming

We recently connected with Jamaya Fleming and have shared our conversation below.

Jamaya, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?
I believe your optimism stems from your level of faith and whoever/whatever you put your faith into. Personally, my faith is strengthened through the process me building my relationship with God. Ironically enough, that journey for me began one year before launching The Poster Gworl and is continuously being strengthened through today. I always tell people, I don’t believe God would show you a vision for no reason. Especially if he’s constantly showing you through those visions and bringing confirmations from other people. I know the potential Poster Gworl has in being one of the biggest magazine networking platforms. I also know the potential I have in being a positive influence on the people behind me and some in front. Through building my relationship with God, I’ve developed an “anything can happen at literally any given moment,” mindset especially with my work ethic and creativity. The way I see it is, Poster Gworl has only been out for one year. Only one year. After all the crying, stressing, and worrying I’ve done, wanting to quit, second guessing myself, feeling afraid of being perceived, etc. I also had to realize all I’ve accomplished within this first year. I’ve made a lot of noise building connections all over with Poster Gworl, and that’s still with no traveling, no manager, or anything of that sort. There’s no limits to my creativity and drive. I’m limitless. That’s coming from a former college athlete, so when I’m determined and truly focused on success, there’s no stopping me in exceeding the expectations I set for myself.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m Jamaya Fleming and I created The Poster Gworl Magazine focusing on all things fashion. What I feel is most special about it is seeing the impact it’s continuously making. When people see or even hear Poster Gworl they automatically think of my brand. There’s people all over referencing it. This is something truly beautiful to witness. Another special aspect of my brand is how relatable and connected the platform is. I make sure to include my audience in everything wether it’s ideas for new merchandise, topics for the podcast, updates on where I am mentally etc. Poster Gworl’s community is growing stronger everyday. What I’d like people to know about The Poster Gworl is that there is now so many components to the magazine. My brand is already a representation of me, however, I originally launched Poster Gworl as an outlet for me to share my insight on fashion and beauty, so this year I’m truly taking on that role giving people another side of me with my vlogs from PG TV, tutorials with PG University, as well as seasons 1 and 2 of my show on my youtube channel. There’s A LOT instore for the gworls so be on the look out for new PG merch, new guest, and way more personality.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
When starting a brand or anything new, you have to be openminded, patient, and confident. These three characteristics are continuously navigating my entire process. I have to be openminded with accepting criticism, openminded with what my consumer wants as opposed to what I want, even openminded with the the road blocks I’ve face. Use your creativity to the best of your ability because there’s a slim chance things are going to go as you planned them and there will be times you have to think quick on your feet. It’s also important to understand that God’s plan for us might not match the plan we’ve created for ourselves so when things don’t go the way you want them just thank God for protecting you from whatever wasn’t meant for you during the process instead of becoming upset. Patience is a core value people should develop aside from entrepreneurship. Having a pure heart and patience will get your way further than someone trying to rush God’s process. Entrepreneurship is no joke and will out you in many tough situations. Many people will see the final product and feel they can wake up tomorrow and have everything fall right into their lap when it does not work that way, however, when you are consistent in what you’re doing and putting in that same high energy into each drop, video, or what ever it may be, you never know what or when you might blow. For people early in their journey, coming from someone who is too early in their journey, take me as an example, I still don’t know when my brand is going to blow, but I know it’s going too, so I push myself to always put out top quality content and keep my faith high because it can literally be any moment now.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Last year, I dropped Poster Gworl sweatsuits and they sold out within about 3 days. I was so excited and began to thinking, okay I think I found my million dollar system. So, I decided to invest the money I made from that drop plus more into getting more sweatsuits made in time for black Friday. At the time, the demand was extremely high and I had multiple videos going viral on TikTok wearing the sweatsuits. I spoke wit my manufacturer, he began the process of having my items made then suddenly it became more and more challenging to reach him. Eventually I was completely unable to reach him and I received nothing I paid for. So at this point Poster Gworl has lost a ton of funds, people are still asking where the sweatsuits are, and my personal income is being affected as well. Now, for those who don’t know, creating content, and running The Poster Gworl are my only jobs, so this became extremely overwhelming for me. Aside from that I wasn’t happy with the content I was putting out as it seemed uninteresting and boring through my eyes. So I decided to take the rest of the year off to relaunch in time for my one year anniversary January 15th. During this time I was able to evaluate my brand and come up with a strategic plan to grow my platform in the way I feel is not only entertaining for my viewers but also for me to take part in and for this first month it’s been going amazing. I will say for anyone feeling overwhelmed, give yourself time and take a break. Allow yourself to rest and regroup. Don’t let anyone make you feel rushed.
