We were lucky to catch up with Jay Coley Jr recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jay, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Being a full time single father. I am fully aware that my kids are watching every move that I make. So I am very critical of my response to situations that do not go my way. I choose to find the lesson in all of my challenges so that I can move forward with positive perspectives. If I choose to be negative, that mindset would become a habit for my children to pick up on and I do not want that for them.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Jay “King” Coley Jr. Fitness Coach and a Spiritual Coach at MM Fitness in Tampa, Florida. I’m on a mission to help individuals “self-actualize” and put them on the path to become the best version whether it comes through physical exercise or spiritual guidance. I’m very passionate about helping others to realize their own potential and I just want to guide people to trust their own heart and intuition so that they make right decisions for themselves to live out their soul’s true purpose. It’s my belief that it is everyone’s birth right to be happy within our authentic selves.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Communication- Being able to effectively connect with others to guide them towards their goals in life is arguably the most important skill to master when it comes successfully helping others reach their goals.
Empathy- Everyone’s journey isn’t going to be the same. Some people have more challenging paths than others and having compassion towards another’s situation can go a long way in terms of getting people to trust you.
Discipline- Last but not least. You have to lead by example and if you expect others to become their best. It’s important for people in my position to be ‘that thing’ that we expect from others.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
Setting healthy boundaries for myself and making ‘Self-Love’ a top priority in my life. I cannot give to others what I’m not willing to give to myself.
