Meet James Mahkween

We recently connected with James Mahkween and have shared our conversation below.

James, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

I’ve honestly always had it. If I want it I go for it! I’ve been told many times before that I’m quite stubborn but always correct people and tell them that I’m persistent. When I have a vision I believe in completing it and it also helps that I’ve always had amazing people in my corner who believe in me. Which is more motivation to achieve my goals.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I’m a dance, choreographer. & producer! What I truly love about my career is that it never gets old. You can constantly grow and learn something new. Meeting new people with different perspectives and experiences. Sharing their craft with each other. That’s honestly why I created my dance show “REFLECT” it’s a platform that allows other artists to share their own ideas based own a theme. We’ve focused on love, home, gratitude, time and more. This also allows the audience to not just enjoy the show but to be apart of the conversation. Being able to have a set theme allows the artist and the audience to understand one another in a meaningful way.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Being open, respectful, loving, and authentic are the qualities that I admire and value! Being able to truly appreciate someone for who they are. The skill I always focus is adapting. Being able to adapt to any situation create strength and confidence. If you can adapt you’ll always be timeless and able to achieve your goals because you’ll begin to see different ways to achieve your goals in all of your dreams.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I’m always looking to collaborate and partner! Working with spaces to put on shows/events/ workshops and other artists being dance, music, photography, videography etc. You can reach me on my Instagram @the_mahkween_method or email me at [email protected] I’m a true believer you can’t go far without people by your side.
