Meet James Minor

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful James Minor a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

James, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

Confidence comes from experience and knowing who you are no matter what. Raised by a single mother with southern roots who never accepted mediocre or allowed me to hold my head down regardless of what’s going on. Or my four years in the Marine Corps, where confidence and mental toughness wasn’t an option. I have taken qualities from every step in my journey in life to be the man that I am today

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

James aka Flavorkingace, as I am referred to in the Hollywood area, am well known for the Mexican/Caribbean cuisine tacos that i cook on a weekly basis. You can find me at some of the high end venues in the Hollywood area, such as Poppy & Warwick. When I’m not catering those nightly events, I am also available for private parties, family or business events or any other catering needs someone may request.

Flavorkingsla was started almost 10 years ago by my big brother Chef solo, who recently moved to Brooklyn, NYC to expand the business on the East Coast. After following the footsteps of the master chef himself, I have branded my own footprints in this city over the last 4 years keeping the brand moving forward.

Flavorkingsla is not your average taco cuisine and some would say there is no taste or flavor like ours. The cajun shrimp, the jerk chicken quesadillas & even the homemade sauce, is not something you can just find at your local taco shop.

Outside of clubs and events Flavorkingsla has also part of homeless outreach and community service such as volunteer work during the Eaton fires in January earlier this year

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three most impactful skills and qualities in my journey were consistency, decor & proficiency.

Anyone who is starting their journey in this field I would definitely suggest first being dedicated to the journey, confident in their abilities, consistency & a marketing plan. Your recipes, your quality of product must be consistent. Learn how to market yourself which makes you unique to others. And what does your weekly monthly plan look like for finances and how you want to see the business grow

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

Number one obstacle or challenge I am currently facing is the current economic crisis in the country. To overcome this is to just be consistent as I’ve been all year long. Running specials when I can, working more within customers budget when booking for a private gig.

Times are tough for everyone right now so a little extra sauce or extra portion of meat could make someone’s day & it’s no sweat off my back because they chose to spend money with me so I’m going to make your experience worth it
