Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to James Patrick. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

James, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
You can’t teach confidence or give anyone self-esteem. Like all things confidence comes with practice and increased self-esteem is the reward. I do this by putting myself in situations that often put me outside of my comfort zone. It’s uncomfortable at first and I always remind myself that there is always something to learn and gain from every experience. I don’t think about the “what if’s” of succeeding or failing. I don’t concern myself with what others will think or say. I just DO. Everything is a successful attempt. It either works or it doesn’t. It was an experience either way. The question is., did I learn? Every time I show up and act on what I want, I increase my confidence and self-esteem. Those that say I can’t, I say, “Watch me!”

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My motto is “Make shift happen.” I pride myself on working with individuals who have poor time investment and organizational skills to create structures, disciplines, systems and routines so that they can be more efficient and productive in their personal and professional lives. As a lifestyle trainer, I know that we all have the potential of creating a life of our own design. In order to attain our goals or even take the first steps, we must have systems and routines in place that allow us to manage all things in life along with the goals we’ve set. They make things significantly easier to be more mindful of how we invest our time and allow us to condition behaviors that enhance our chances of success and fulfillment.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three areas of awareness that were the most impactful for me have and continue to be: Allow myself to release the need for perfection and expectation. That leaves no room for growth or what could be. Be willing to be vulnerable. It is one of our greatest strengths and allows us to be fully expressed. Always as for support when it’s needed. We can’t do it all alone.

For someone just starting their journey, my best advice is to get clear on what you want. Lock in your goals. Take action AND be flexible with what shows up along the way. When we release expectation of how things are “supposed” to go, we open up the potential of something even better showing up.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
Every challenge is a “blesson” in disguise. I’m currently in a space of expanding my practice to the next phase. I suppose there are worse challenges to have and yet, it’s all about perspective. It’s scary and exciting. Just as in all things, when it comes to growth, we get to a point where we plateau and we’ve gotta mix things up. Strategies for growth keep us moving and removes the guesswork. I know that at this point in my career it’s time to build even further upon my social capital and enhance the relationships that I can co-create with. It’s all about who ya know sometimes! So, let’s grow together.
