We recently connected with James R Guffey Jr and have shared our conversation below.
James R, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Hey everyone, and all the viewers taking time out of their day to talk to me thank you. My name is James R Guffey Jr born and raised in Blue Springs, Missouri 1985. I am honored to live my dream, work, and be beside one of my best friends Daniel Sikorski, since 1st grade. The ideal being in the same locker room, card, venue, and same group of talented people, it’s pretty amazing. While growing up, always had difficulties, at a young age. The first thing was my speech, my pronouns, verbs, and sounding stuff out. It would make me so mad. Sense, always thought to myself why can’t I be normal Then, later on, the way I was being treated. That built up into, a ball of anger. I had some amazing people that stood beside me. These people stuck up for me, chest high, and put people back in line. To this I am honored, to call Daniel Sikorski one of my best, and oldest childhood friends. Thank you for everything you did threw out are an educational journey, putting your neck out for me. was blessed that, the school district gave my mom, and family the resources. I needed. It was tough, having to get pulled from class. It was sometimes embarrassing, but I owe great gratitude, to these special teachers. They sat with me, they worked my tail off sounding, working on letters until I was in 10 grade. Isn’t that’s amazing, they never gave up.They would tell me by pushing me, looking at me, and not mentioning a problem, we’re not giving up. Soon after I graduated from Blue Springs High School, in 2004. I saw a couple of them. I smile and hugged them, and said thank you. I was teased sometimes, bullied, and got given a chance. That didn’t stop me, going to work harder. After 9th grade made these follow adjustments to my life.
The first thing is don’t ever change someone, for they can’t help. Most importantly don’t ever change something about yourself, to please a human being. I’ve been in that the place where you just break down. Well, be damn if that happens in front of me. Don’t ever be ashamed of being yourself. If you change, you, throw the surrender flag, and they won. That is the best advice I can give you, from personal events. Tell yourself your love, your smile, and your great. I started talking slower and stopped being lazy with my words. That was a factor that help me out. Once I put that into practice, change my life. I used to worry about how it comes out. That’s not the way you lived your life. It’s too short, so I stop it. Once these steps were in action ,change my mental state, life got better. My best friends play a huge part of it, Daniel Sikorski, Patrick Hall, Zack Gregory, Peter Soper, Brett Rousseau, Danny Stamper, Dan Worth, Brian Little, Phil Bowmen, Phil Cross, Brian Little my brother Brandon Guffey, and Bryan Maddy. That help me get into professional wrestling. This business, half to be in front of all shorts, and kinds of people. Trust me, there are going to be people who like you, some don’t, and you’re going to have a critic. The most important thing is never to take anything personally. I got into it to inspire people, touch lives, and make moments. A simple man, giving back to his community, because proud of it. In professional wrestling, you half to put yourself out there. Trust me there will always be a camera in your face. Sometimes you just half to go with the flow. There always going to be hateful people no matter what field, profession, and life in general. I forever hold my gratitude, and thanks to Kansas City Xtreme Wrestling. It’s not only them but the training center they run. They didn’t see me as having a condition, but normal. Took the time to work on troubles that occur, along the journey to graduate. The staff opened their arms up welcoming me. If it wasn’t for the Blue Springs School District, patient teachers, and people in the professional wrestling business. I wouldn’t of go completely over it, impact my life more than words cane explain.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a professional wrestling manager at Kansas City Xtreme Wrestling. It’s a professional Wrestling company in Kansas City area. They have a school in Raytown, Missouri, the extreme wrestling center. This is where they train some of the best athletes in the Midwest. My. Manager under the name The Guff D.D Dimmadome, wouldn’t trade it for the world. The best thing about what I do is inspiring people, touching lives, and being a part of those magical moments.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
My advice is to be yourself, who cares what people think. If they have an issue, it’s on them, not you. It doesn’t matter if you have a disability, death, mental, or condition. That doesn’t mean you can’t go after your dream. Their no one stopping you, but yourself, so chase it.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Well first of all its Jesus, my heavenly father, the tools he gave me. It has to be my family, the staff ,and the Xtreme Wrestling Center in Raytown, Missouri. The great members, and teachers at the Blue Springs School District. Most importantly my childhood, best friends, and mother.
