Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jameson Matunas. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jameson, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
I conjure all of my force through channeling emotion. I learned that it is forged into our behavior to be good and sit still and be quiet. And this influence of control over us creates an attitude and placation of submissiveness. Resilience in quiet suffering is not resilience. It is an acceptance of a slow death of the diminishing of the fire inside of you, It is through this realization, and strength to resist – that no power system will limit the joy and love I am capable of experiencing and providing others.
Resilience, for me, comes from self acceptance, eye-watering painful devotion to understanding, and unconditional love towards all.a
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I have constructed and deconstructed my life several times over. Until now – it always felt limited or influenced by others. When I realized my life would have destroyed providing the image others expected from me – I began to set fire to these false parts. Profession, partner, attitudes, beliefs, habits. All of it needed to be looked at honestly in order for me to have a chance at honest and true living, something I could be proud of when I die.
When I realized my truth. – my whole self was that of a fountain of love and creativity, I sought to build my life around how I would feel and spend time each day. If my choices did not align with this reality I needed to create for myself, I would/do look at myself honestly and revise my being until the choices align with the freedom, autonomy, and self-love.
There is nothing to fear, any pain of growth pairs with an equally deep and spectacular joy of peace.

I left my corporate position, volunteered, and found rehabilitation. I achieved my doctorate, focusing on trauma and chronic pain, as well as influences on community health. I now work in the acute care setting as well as my own business supporting caregivers and preventative health at home. What I do in between is rest and create.

I am most excited about my current projects. I have a huge body of work I am ready to share with the world, and the projects I have planned with my writer/creator partner Christian Angeles. We tend to lean into telling stories that elicit a deep reflection for the reader. We have just completed (on kickstarter) a horror anthology 1-shot apart of an anthology “Tomb of Baalberith V2.” Beyond this I post/sell art online. If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
In reflection, I believe these qualities are still the pieces of me that maintain my health and peace.
1) Unconditional love – towards yourself first. When we give ourselves infinite space to be, to feel.. we can grow in ways that support our physical, spiritual, mental health. When we deny ourselves this space, we tend to ‘think’ and follow the thoughts over the much more honest reality of feeling.
2) Unconditional understanding – when we offer all other people the same unconditional love (space) to be, feel, communicate. – the dramas crease in our life. The people who support our journey reveal themselves daily as do the others who are stuck in pain.
3) Live in the NOW – the past brings depression, the future anxiety. When we sit in the moment, there is nothing to fear. All things point towards joy. For sitting in even the most uncomfortable and difficult moments allow gratitude and joy to remain.

I have noticed opportunities bloom when we live honestly with love. People have an innate sense for false, image only, energy. Be the version of a person you wish the world to have.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
I feel overwhelmed minute to minute many days. I find breathing, and appreciating the beauty i have in front of me. The gratitude of my ability to stand up over and over when the pressures of life crush. Moments I pause are the ones where my fire rages, peace swells, and I become invincible.
