We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jamie Batiste. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jamie below.
Hi Jamie, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
As an entrepreneur, imposter syndrome is something we all experience at different stages. I wouldn’t say we ever fully overcome it, but rather, we learn how to manage it when it creeps in. Running a business is such a personal journey—our business is our baby, and naturally, we want to see it thrive and succeed. But when those feelings of doubt and “less than” surface, it can be draining and even depressing at times.
For me, the key has been taking a step back. When I find myself staring at the same problem or project that’s not bringing me joy in the moment, I give myself permission to pause. I remind myself that I’ve put in the work, that I have the talent, and that things will unfold as they’re meant to. It’s about trusting the process.
To anyone reading this, know that you are more than good enough. Imposter syndrome doesn’t define your worth, and it’s okay to take moments for yourself. Life doesn’t stop just because you run a business. So take that break, live your life, and then come back to your work with a fresh perspective.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m the founder and designer behind Rejected Hearts Club, where I create handcrafted jewelry that celebrates resilience, strength, and self-love. What makes my work special is that every piece tells a story—it’s not just about the jewelry, but the deeper meaning behind it. My designs feature gold-filled magnetic clasps and Grade A Hematite stones, blending style with purpose. The magnetic clasps make it easy for people on the go, but they also symbolize connection, love, and being a magnetic force in life.
What excites me most about Rejected Hearts Club is how each piece resonates with my customers. I’ve built this brand around the idea of turning heartbreak into power, and that message seems to connect with so many people on a personal level. It’s truly fulfilling to know that my jewelry is more than an accessory; it’s a statement of strength and empowerment.
I’m always looking to evolve and expand, and right now I’m working on some exciting new designs and collaborations. We also have some upcoming events and product launches in the works, so stay tuned! Additionally, a portion of our proceeds goes to the Myositis Foundation in honor of my brother, which is something I’m deeply proud of.
At its core, Rejected Hearts Club is about more than just jewelry—it’s about helping people feel empowered, connected, and loved. I want everyone who wears my designs to feel like they’re part of something bigger, a community that embraces strength and resilience.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three key qualities have had a significant impact on my journey. The first is networking. Coming from a communications background in Radio and TV, I developed strong skills in connecting with people from all walks of life. This ability to communicate effectively and respectfully has opened doors for me, and it continues to create opportunities. Networking is truly powerful when you approach it with authenticity and a willingness to learn from others.
The second quality is being open to new things. I started my business by simply trying something different, not knowing where it would lead me. Being open to learning, exploring, and taking risks has been invaluable. It’s easy to feel like you need to have everything figured out from the start, but often, the best experiences and growth come from stepping outside your comfort zone.
Lastly, confidence has played a huge role. Not just confidence in my abilities, but in my own journey. My advice for anyone early in their path is to follow your own mind and trust your instincts. In today’s world, it’s easy to get caught up in the “pretend” side of social media, comparing yourself to others. But remember, you don’t know what’s real versus what’s exaggerated. Stay true to who you are, and don’t let external noise distract you from your goals. Your journey is unique, and that’s what makes it special.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was allowing me to be unapologetically me. From a young age, I was always creative and independent. I’d spend hours pretending to be a radio host or TV personality, dreaming big even as a kid. I was constantly busy—whether playing multiple instruments or being involved in sports—and growing up with all boys definitely kept me on my toes! My parents never tried to box me in, and I’m so grateful for that freedom to explore my passions and develop my sense of self.
Another major gift my parents gave me was a unique perspective on life. My siblings and I were all born overseas, which gave us a chance to see the world from different angles. My mom, being Cuban and having grown up in Louisiana, instilled in us the importance of culture. She always made sure we knew not to let anyone treat us differently because of our skin tone, and that lesson has stayed with me throughout my life. It’s shaped how I navigate the world, always proud of who I am and where I come from.
