We were lucky to catch up with Jamie Goode recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jamie , so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
Staying Creative isn’t easy, but it does help by avoiding ruts. If you get stuck doing the same things every day in the same way, your brain doesn’t get much new to work with, so I try to keep it simple by mixing things up. I work on a variety of types of projects, from construction work (building my own props for my studio), working at my home office, working in the studio, and sometimes I go play billiards pool in the middle of the day (because it’s my release on things). Take breaks from work and my phone, put your phone in a drawer and put it on silent (out of sight, out of mind). Taking breaks from social media helps way more than most realize, because they just don’t do it! I’m an insomniac, but getting enough sleep is the best medicine for your mental health and your physical health!! Having a growth mindset for life is a plus! I also have common sense, so I know when I can’t, I just don’t. A Brief Recap to what has put me in a bad place, and how I can make it better! I also love what I do, my passion for my photography is my life, I dream of ideas and I see myself doing big things in the suture, so I will continue to dream BIG!!

I’m currently rebranding my business and have some big things in the works! My dream is to go to NYC and shoot fashion!!
HOW DO YOU DREAM OF BEING PHOTOGRAPHED?
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Wow, I have learned so much over the years, I spent the first fifteen years shooting wedding and everything else you could think of, because I just wanted to shoot! But the come to a halt fast, I like photographing people and creating something memorable, but I got burned out on wedding fast, so today I only photograph 2-4 weddings a year. I just want to photograph beauty and maternity portraits, fashion & modeling, personal & musicians branding!
I’m 100% self taught, whether it’s using a computer, my cameras, lighting equipment and all my editing programs. I’m a natural creative person, I love graphic design (something else I taught myself), marketing and social media content.
If I could tell another photographer just starting out, LEARN LEARN LEARN!! Learn how to use your gear, research the industry, and find your NICHE!! Don’t just shoot everything, find what you love the most and just stick to that, because that will make you stand out from others. There are so many new photographers popping out everywhere these days, so you want to make sure you stand out! Don’t be like everyone else!

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
WOMEN!! Women of all ages, any ethnic, all sizes, just any women who wants to see herself in a new light! As a woman in my forty’s, I know how hard it is to feel beautiful with all the youth around us, we try all the new trends to keep up with them and sometimes we just give up and feel pathetic about ourselves. I want to bring that woman in to my studio and give her the makeover experience of a lifetime and provide her with a celebrity styled photo shoot that you will never forget! Every woman deserves to feel special, be pampered and have the most beautiful portraits of herself to enjoy and later on, leave to her family as a legacy….
