Meet Jamie Lewis

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jamie Lewis a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Jamie, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

Truthfully when I was going through my divorce and first time in my adult life- I was single, mom of two boys and had very little confidence. I needed to “pretend” I was completely okay and fine- that came from my clothing. Showing up everyday for myself ready, and along with true forms of therapy it worked! While I. was already a stylist at this point in my life and knew how important style was, it really showed ME though how transformative it is on so many levels and for our self-esteem. So, really simply put showing up for myself in my clothing and the boost that gave me showed me that all women need and deserve this as well.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m the founder of JBL Styles, personal styling for women in NYC and beyond looking to revamp. All of our clients have fallen into a style rut and are craving a reset. We aren’t focused on what’s trending or what’s the must-have piece of the season and instead focused on showing our clients of all sizes the importance of undertstanding how easy it to style yourself in an outfit you actually love. We work with women in person for a full transformation and virtually through our style coaching to really help women navigate their transform at the pace that makes the most sense for them and where they are. I firmly believe in curating a wardrobe for your lifestyle versus just buying the new it piece and that’s why all of our clients are shown step by step what’s working for them, how to put it together, what to look for so they aren’t only leaving with a transformation but also an understanding how to continue it.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I worked years in retail all of my skills can be traced back to that time. As far back as high school working the floors of Forever 21 and then slowly into true luxury retail. Ofcourse helped me understand different body types and outfit combinations but even more importantly it helped me understand how to talk to different types of women, their individual needs and how to bring ease into the fitting room as it can be a really stressful area for so many women. Another area of knowledge is pretty quickly I learned if I wanted my business to scale- I had to get infront of the camera and dive into social media. I took classes, invested in coaching to really understand how to do it effectively and by so, it grew my virtual styling portion of my business and reached clients I would have nevet met! Don’t be afraid to inveset even if you cant see the ROI right away or even if you’ve been burned- I made my biggest investment on a coach for specifically for marketing when I became a single mom and it was probably the worst time to do it and I do not regret it for a second! Don’t be afraid to take the bottom job- my years in retail, even Forever 21 helps me understand how to read people, visual merchandise a beautiful suit, understand proportions. Sometimes the “bottom” job will have the most long term benefits.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Always looking to collaborate! Any matchmaker, wellness coach specifically for women and their clients need the help of revamping their style. Im available for masterclasses for their community, newsletter swaps, blog contributor, really anything! As well as designers, looking to reach a new community- I always want to showcase a new designer or a great brand to support!
