Meet Jamie Logan

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jamie Logan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jamie below.

Jamie, thrilled to have you on the platform as I think our readers can really benefit from your insights and experiences. In particular, we’d love to hear about how you think about burnout, avoiding or overcoming burnout, etc.

Burnout is unfortunately very common among activists because we often go full force and forget to nourish and care for ourselves, which is unsustainable in the long term. As a passionate animal rights activist, I’m constantly attending or organizing demos, rescuing animals, posting content online, and being exposed to intense suffering. For many years, I tried to act invincible and stay strong for the animals and the cause. But the truth is I was neglecting myself and slowly burning out. I acted like the suffering I saw didn’t affect me and that the focus should solely be on the animals.

After conducting undercover investigations inside farms, the sight of meat became even more disturbing, triggering flashbacks to seeing baby animals dying, trembling individuals lying in their own waste, and witnessing extreme suffering. These signs started to manifest in my daily life through fast-paced breathing, increased heart rate, hot flashes, and debilitating anxiety. It became harder to be around people who weren’t vegan yet. I had to take a step back and ask myself: How effective can I be if I can’t even engage with the people I’m trying to reach with the vegan message? Am I truly acting from a place of love, or am I starting to feel resentful?

This is when I decided I needed to help myself. I always heard yoga was good for the body and mind so I decided to give it a try. I took classes at a variety of studios and felt better physically but one place in particular changed my life forever. In December of 2023, I stepped into Jivamukti Yoga NYC and never looked back. Their integrated approach of asana, meditation, sound and scripture is a transformative experience if you allow it to be. One of the core tenants of Jivamutki is Ahimsa which means non violence and so they discuss veganism as a necessary step towards enlightenment. This way of approaching activism made me realize how healing it can be for all (including humans) rather than divisive, allowing me to continue in this work for the long term. Not only do I enjoy educating people and creating my video content online, but I believe that I have also become more effective in reaching people by changing my own mindset and cultivating inner peace for outer action.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Hi, I’m Jamie Logan—an animal rights activist, YouTuber, yogi, filmmaker, and podcast host. My work is centered around raising awareness for animal rights and creating content that inspires people to make more compassionate choices. On my YouTube channel, I share street interviews on a wide range of topics, including how animals are used in food, fashion, entertainment, cosmetics, and more. I try to get creative with it, using humor to engage people who might not otherwise take an interest in these issues. I also host a podcast where I dive into topics impacting animals, interviewing doctors, rescuers, activists, authors, spiritual leaders, and others who share stories that empower people to take action.

What excites me most about what I do is the opportunity to spark meaningful conversations and encourage others to think critically about their choices. It’s incredible to see how a single piece of content can lead someone to reevaluate their habits and adopt a more ethical lifestyle. For me, the power of storytelling and education in activism is truly special, and I’m honored to be part of a larger movement toward a more compassionate world.

Right now, I’m preparing for a two-month yoga and activism tour, where I’ll be assisting Sharon Gannon, the founder of Jivamukti Yoga, in helping people reconnect with the message of ahimsa (nonviolence) and promoting peace and veganism. After that, I’ll be touring with Allied Scholars for Animal Protection, advocating across Ivy League schools for animal rights.

Ultimately, my goal is to empower others to live with compassion and create lasting change. If you’re passionate about animal rights or just starting to explore how you can help, I invite you to follow my journey and join the movement. Every small action counts, and together, we can make a huge difference for animals.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The more equipped we are with knowledge, the more impactful we can be. My skills in video editing, producing for a documentary film company, and my background in acting are all integral to the work I do today.

Throughout college, I had internships where I learned video editing using programs like Adobe Premiere and Final Cut. I would spend 8 hours, three times a week, cutting videos for free for the companies I worked for. Honestly, it was challenging at the time, and some days it was hard to see the long-term value of it, but I wouldn’t change a minute of that experience. Everything I did at those internships taught me valuable, lasting skills.

I was fortunate to work for a vegan film company called CaveLight Films for three years. There, I learned the art of storytelling, interviewing, Photoshop, organizing, budgeting, and so much more. The skills I developed at CaveLight are still central to my work today.

Many people don’t know that I attended a performing arts high school called LaGuardia, where I studied drama. I absolutely loved it, and it taught me how to captivate an audience, improve my memorization, master public speaking, and build confidence. I still incorporate acting into many of my skits and videos now!

My biggest piece of advice is to never stop learning and to view every job as an opportunity to grow. Even if you’re not passionate about what you’re doing right now, you can always apply the skills you gain to your passion later on. Having a mentor or someone you look up to can also be incredibly helpful because they can keep you motivated and teach you valuable skills.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I’m always open to collaborating with organizations or fellow activists because I truly believe we’re stronger together! If anyone reading this has any ideas, I’d love to create something impactful with you. Additionally, if you’re an artist, videographer, or photographer, your talents are always appreciated and needed. Let’s connect and see how we can work together!
