Jamie , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Finding my purpose has been a transformative journey, deeply rooted in my personal experiences and the legacy of my mother. Last July, I faced one of the most challenging moments of my life when I lost my mother to stage 4 breast cancer. She was not only my mother but also a remarkable woman who inspired many with her numerous talents and accomplishments.

My mother was a pillar in her community, a business owner, an advocate for youth, and served as a director at United Way. She also had a profound impact on education as a retired assistant principal at a prestigious charter school. Through her dedication and hard work, she taught me the values of resilience, compassion, and leadership.

Her passing was a significant turning point for me. In that moment of loss, I realized the immense impact she had on my life and the lives of others. It ignited a fire within me to honor her legacy by empowering women entrepreneurs through my organization, Empower Her Mind. I wanted to create a space where women could feel supported, inspired, and equipped to chase their dreams—just as my mother had done for so many.

Additionally, through my work with my own businesses First Choice Custom Homes and First Choice Flooring and Renovations, I strive to bring people’s visions to life, ensuring they feel empowered in their own journeys. My purpose now lies in uplifting others, advocating for women’s empowerment, and creating spaces where we can all thrive. My mother’s spirit and teachings continue to guide me, and I hope to pass that inspiration on to others in the community.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m Jamie Lopez, the founder of Empower Her Mind, an organization dedicated to supporting women entrepreneurs as they navigate the challenges of building and growing their businesses. My professional journey has been a blend of passion and purpose, centered around the belief in the power of community and collaboration among women.

At Empower Her Mind, we offer a range of resources, including mentorship programs, networking opportunities, and workshops that focus on personal and professional development. What excites me most about this work is witnessing the transformation in women as they discover their strengths, build confidence, and take bold steps toward their goals. It’s incredibly fulfilling to create a supportive environment where women can share their stories, learn from one another, and ultimately thrive in their endeavors.

In addition to Empower Her Mind, I own First Choice Custom Homes and First Choice Flooring and Renovations. Through these ventures, I bring my vision for high-quality craftsmanship and personalized service to life. I take great pride in collaborating with clients to create spaces that reflect their unique styles and needs. I believe that a home should not only be functional but also an expression of one’s identity.

We are currently in an exciting phase of growth at First Choice Custom Homes. Our goal is to become the number one choice in our industry throughout North Texas. We’re expanding our services to include more innovative home designs and sustainable building practices, ensuring that our projects not only meet our clients’ needs but also contribute positively to the environment. We’re also investing in advanced technology to streamline our processes, enhance communication with clients, and elevate the overall building experience.

Later next year, we’ll be hosting a grand opening for our new design center, where clients can explore a range of options and ideas for their homes. This space will serve as a hub for inspiration, allowing clients to visualize their dreams and work closely with our team to bring those visions to life.

Through my work with Empower Her Mind and First Choice Custom Homes, I am committed to fostering a sense of community and empowerment among women and aspiring homeowners. I believe in helping individuals pursue their dreams with confidence and building lasting connections within our communities.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Reflecting on my journey, I can identify three key qualities that have profoundly impacted my path: resilience, connection, and self-awareness.

1. Resilience:** The entrepreneurial journey is often filled with challenges and setbacks. There were times when I felt isolated and overwhelmed, especially during the difficult period of losing my mother. Embracing resilience allowed me to push through those tough moments. It’s important for women to understand that setbacks are not failures; they’re opportunities for growth. I encourage anyone just starting out to cultivate a mindset of resilience. When faced with obstacles, ask yourself, “What can I learn from this?” and let that guide your next steps.

2. Connection:** Building meaningful relationships has been vital to my healing and growth. I’ve found that entrepreneurship can sometimes feel lonely, particularly as a woman in a competitive landscape. However, forming deep friendships and connecting with other women has been incredibly empowering. These relationships have provided support, encouragement, and a sense of community. I advise early-stage entrepreneurs to seek out networks and groups of like-minded women. Surrounding yourself with supportive individuals not only combats loneliness but also fosters collaboration and shared learning.

3. Self-awareness:** Understanding my own strengths and limitations has been crucial in finding balance in both my professional and personal life. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and forget about self-care, but taking time to reflect and recharge is essential. I encourage women to prioritize self-awareness through practices like journaling or mindfulness. By recognizing what you need—whether it’s a break, a new skill, or seeking help—you’ll be better equipped to navigate the ups and downs of entrepreneurship.

For those just starting their journey, remember that it’s okay to ask for help and to take time for yourself. Building a successful business is not just about the end goal; it’s about the journey itself. Embrace your unique path, connect with other women, and always strive to learn and grow.
