Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jamie Mok. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jamie, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?
My upbringing instilled a strong sense of generosity in me, which has continued to be important throughout my life. My parents were my first role models. From charities, church to underprivileged families in our community, I witnessed them giving back on a regular basis by helping others with hesitation. I see this generosity not just with them, but also in my brother, who inherited that same giving spirit. My family’s influence instilled in me a sense of normalcy around generosity, making it a natural part of how I navigate the world. However, that hasn’t diminish the impact it has on me when I see it in others.
Looking at my circle of friends, I see a common thread: generosity. Those that I have remained close with throughout my life are some of the most generous beings who willingly and openly give and share. However, it’s during challenging times that truly stand out. Generous individuals have gone above and beyond to support me, and their acts of kindness will forever be ingrained in my memory. Their outpouring of kindness instilled a deep sense of gratitude within me.
I believe that receiving generosity and practicing gratitude fuels a cycle of giving back. When we experience the joy of receiving help, it opens our hearts and expands our capacity to be generous ourselves. For me, giving isn’t about getting something in return – it’s about the inherent satisfaction of helping others and knowing that I can contribute positively to someone’s life.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
For over ten years, I witnessed the power of holistic wellness firsthand working as a clinical dietitian. Seeing hospital patients battling chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer fueled my passion to empower others to optimize their health and longevity. This led me to create Yogini RD LLC, a personalized wellness practice that blends cutting-edge nutrition with the mindful practices of yoga and meditation.
Whether you’re looking to optimize health and prevent disease, specifically address women’s health concerns, or explore the benefits of plant-based eating, I offer private nutrition guidance to achieve personal goals. My unique approach combines my expertise in nutrition with the power of yoga, creating a mind-body connection that fosters lasting, healthy habits. I don’t just tell you what to eat; I help you discover the “why” behind healthy choices, inspiring you from within.
Beyond individual clients, I also partner with companies to create impactful wellness programs for their employees. I offer a holistic approach that integrates healthy eating habits with stress-busting yoga and meditation practices, empowering employees to thrive both inside and outside the office.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Trust. Leaving the security of a steady job to start Yogini RD was terrifying. For years, I wrestled with self-doubt, questioning if I had the courage to pursue this dream. It took a lot of introspection to overcome those self-imposed limitations and silence the inner critic holding me back. Ultimately, it came down to trusting my gut instinct. I had to learn to believe in myself and embrace the possibility of growth and transformation.
Humility. Launching Yogini RD was a reality check for my inner perfectionist! Building a business is rarely a straight line to the top. Unlike the clear-cut goals of academic systems and corporate ladders, entrepreneurial journeys are messy and unpredictable. As a new business owner, the initial vulnerability felt overwhelming. But here’s the thing: embracing the possibility of setbacks and even failures became the key to learning and growing. It turns out, allowing myself to be a little less perfect – a little more human – was crucial. That shift in mindset, accepting challenges as part of the process, prevented discouragement and kept me moving forward. After all, giving up would be the only true failure.
Fierce Determination. Let’s be honest, starting a business isn’t for everyone. There will be days when problems pile up, and everything feels overwhelming, confusing, and stressful. Especially in the early stages, inconsistency and unpredictability are par for the course. There have definitely been moments where I’ve questioned my ability to navigate these challenges, but here’s the key: belief is the fuel that propels a business forward. If we don’t fully believe in what we’re building, how can we expect it to succeed? That’s why wholehearted commitment is crucial. Building a thriving business requires unwavering dedication and a fierce determination to navigate those inevitable obstacles.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
In this exciting journey of being an entrepreneur, one of the biggest things I’ve learned is the power of connection. I’m always on the lookout for opportunities to meet and collaborate with like-minded people – inspiring professionals, companies, and brands who share my passion for empowering individuals and communities. My mission is to help people discover healthier lifestyles that fit seamlessly into their everyday lives, without feeling overwhelming.
I believe in a holistic approach to health that goes beyond just food. That’s why I combine science-backed nutrition with mindful practices like yoga and meditation. It’s all about creating a sustainable, joyful journey towards better health.
