We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jamie Quiles a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Growing up in Puerto Rico, I was surrounded by a community that was more than just people living nearby. It was my family, my neighbors, the warmth of familiar faces, and shared struggles. Those early years taught me about hard work, resilience, and the kind of compassion that gets you through the toughest times. Moving to the United States was a leap into a new culture, new language, and a whole new world, but I never let go of the belief that every challenge is an opportunity to grow.
My journey has been anything but a straight line. I’ve worn so many different hats, and each one taught me something I needed to know. I remember when I found my first real mentor. I was working at a car dealership back then, and I didn’t even realize at the time that he was truly a mentor to me. It just felt like I had someone to turn to whenever I was in doubt, whenever I was struggling with what to do next, and most importantly when I was dealing with the pains of growing up and feeling alone. It sounds like a cliche,I know everyone says it, but when you have big ambitions, when you want to do more, and when your dreams feel too big, people either think you’re crazy or they just don’t get it. My mentor understood that drive in me. He listened when others didn’t, and he helped me navigate those moments when I felt like I was too much or not enough all at once. Having someone like that made all the difference, and it showed me how important it is to be that kind of support for someone else.
I’ve learned through my journey that having someone there for you can change everything. There were times when I needed support when I needed someone to understand, and that help just wasn’t there. It taught me how isolating it can feel to face challenges alone and how important it is to have people who believe in you and who stand by you when you’re struggling. That lack of support made me realize how powerful it is to be that person for someone else, to be the one who says, ‘I’ve got you, and we will figure this out together.’
Working in different industries and specifically leading Bellatrix wasn’t just about growing a business, it was about empowering people. It was about giving solo estheticians the tools and confidence to level up and reach their dreams. Then there was my life as a coach, all of it driven by this desire to make an impact and create real change, not just for me but for the people around me. For the people who don’t always get the help they need or the chances they deserve. I see that a lot.
And somewhere along the way, I found my purpose. It didn’t come all at once,it came in those small, beautiful moments. Like when I saw someone I coached finally hit their goals, or when I realized that my work could help someone else feel powerful in their own skin. I’ve learned that I’m at my best when I’m lifting others up when I can guide someone to see just how capable they are. My purpose is about being that guide, that support, that much-needed push. It’s about showing people their own strength and watching them shine.
I’ve come to realize that purpose isn’t some big epiphany that happens all at once. It’s a journey that reveals itself in small pieces with every person I meet and every story I get to be part of. It’s in the conversations that leave us both a little better than before, in the wins we celebrate together, and even in the setbacks and stresses that teach us more than we expected. Oh boy, how this setback can be! It’s about taking every piece of my story, the struggles, the wins, the lessons, and using it to help others build their own. That’s where I find fulfillment. That’s where I find my purpose. I can’t imagine not working on it every single day.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m Jamie Quiles, and I’m the proud co-founder of Bellatrix, a company that’s all about helping solo estheticians excel in the world of luxury aesthetics. At Bellatrix, we provide luxury aesthetic devices, including our flagship product, the Genesis device, as well as education, business coaching, and a vibrant community for estheticians to connect and grow.
What makes Bellatrix special is that we’re not just selling devices; we’re helping solo estheticians stand out in a competitive industry by giving them the tools to provide unique, results-driven treatments. But beyond the technology, what excites me most is the opportunity to empower estheticians to expand their businesses, boost their confidence, and ultimately offer their clients something truly luxurious and effective. For so many solo estheticians, the journey can feel incredibly lonely. It’s a profession where you’re often on your own, and the need for genuine support and ongoing education is immense. At Bellatrix, we understand the emotional weight of trying to build something amazing by ourselves, which is why we aspire to be that source of guidance, community, and encouragement. We want estheticians to know they’re not alone; we’re right here beside them every step of the way.
This is why we are proud of The Bellas Tribe, our growing community of solo estheticians. It’s a space for learning, connecting, and celebrating successes. We focus on educating, motivating, and supporting our audience through business tips, aesthetic education, and inspiring content. We’re expanding The Bellas Tribe, and it’s been amazing to see how much impact the community has had on those who are part of it.
Right now, we’re in an exciting phase. We’ve just launched our new hydro serum line, Belle Lueur, which was created to perfectly complement the Genesis device and elevate the treatments estheticians offer. We’re also offering a subscription for our Belle Lueur Oxygen Caps, designed to enhance our signature Oxygen Bohr Facials. Plus, we’re rolling out a virtual demo program so solo estheticians everywhere can experience the Genesis firsthand.
At Bellatrix, it’s not just about beauty, it’s about giving estheticians the tools and support they need to create the life they dream of. We’re here to help them succeed, one luxurious treatment at a time.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back on my journey, I can say that three qualities made all the difference: resilience, empathy, and a hunger for growth.
Resilience has been at the core of everything I’ve done. Life doesn’t always go as planned, I learned that after my divorce and relocation to the United States, and the challenges can feel endless, especially when you’re trying to build something of your own. But resilience is what keeps you moving forward, even when it feels like nothing is working. When you get a hit followed by four more punches. It’s that ability to get up, again and again, no matter how many times you fall. For anyone starting out, I’d say practice resilience every single day. Train yourself to see setbacks (they always show up) not as failures but as lessons, and use them to become stronger.
Empathy is something I never knew would be as crucial as it turned out to be. Being able to understand and connect with people, clients, team members, and partners is what makes everything click. When I started focusing on really listening (it definitely took me a while) and on trying to understand where people were coming from, it changed how I approached my business and my relationships. If you just got started on your journey, practice empathy by being genuinely curious about the people you work with. Ask questions, listen deeply, and don’t just listen to respond; listen to understand. Listen without thinking what you are going to say next.
Lastly, a hunger for growth has fueled me every step of the way. I’ve always been eager to learn (I am a Nerd) to find out how I can do better and how I can make things work. The truth is, you never stop learning, and the minute you think you know it all, you’ve lost your edge. That is why my goal is to learn something new every day. My advice? Stay hungry for knowledge. However you choose to do it, taking courses, reading, or simply being open to feedback, always look for ways to grow. Growth doesn’t happen overnight, but if you keep investing in yourself, you’ll be amazed at how far you can go.
These three qualities have shaped my journey, and they’re what I lean on every day. If you’re just starting out, know that it’s okay to fall (you will fall a lot), that understanding others will take you far, and that staying hungry will always keep you in the game.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
One book that has played a huge role in my personal and professional growth is Patrick Bet-David’s ‘Your Next Five Moves.’ I’ve read it three times now, and each time, it hits differently. It’s like the book just knows what I’m dealing with at that moment, every time I pick it up, there’s something that speaks directly to whatever I’m going through.
What makes this book so impactful is how it pushes you to be brutally honest with yourself. Bet-David doesn’t sugarcoat anything. He tells you straight up that you need clarity if you want to make real moves. And let me tell you, that kind of honesty is tough. It’s something we often avoid because it’s uncomfortable, but that discomfort is exactly where the magic happens. One of the biggest lessons I took away was that if you’re not crystal clear about what you want, you’re never going to be able to make the moves to get there. That realization was a game-changer for me.
Another insight is understanding the order of your next moves, knowing what step needs to come first and what actions are going to get you to where you want to be. This has been so valuable because, let’s face it, in both business and life, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by everything you want to do. The book teaches you how to break it all down, get real about your situation, and focus on those next five moves that are going to make the biggest impact. It’s about taking control of your future in a smart, strategic way, and that message has stuck with me.
If you’re willing to face the truth about where you are and where you want to go, ‘Your Next Five Moves’ will challenge you to rise up. For me, it’s been a guide through different stages of my journey, and each time I read it, I find new lessons that keep me growing. Growth isn’t easy, but it’s worth every ounce of effort, and this book has been a constant reminder of that.
