Meet Jamie R. Wright

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jamie R. Wright. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jamie R. below.

Hi Jamie R., so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
As a known domestic violence survivor of color, who now, humbly serve on the board of directors for several domestic violence non-profits; one being the largest non-profit in the Houston area, which is, the 3 largest city in the United States, I’ve learned to be successful by remembering my ancestors that came before me. I have learned to become present, with a great deal of humanity, resilience, and tenacity, that I can not allow being intimated and struggling with imposter syndrome to stop me from sharing my story of overcoming life’s obstacles (e.g. homelessness, teenage pregnancy, domestic violence) with a goal of inspiring other’s to overcome too.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Jamie R. Wright is an award-winning Resilience and Encouragement Speaker, Advocate, Activist, Coach, and Domestic Violence Survivor. She founded Jamie R. Wright, LLC with a mission to provide survivor-led awareness, education, and empowerment to Black Communities impacted by domestic violence.

Jamie has appeared on 60 Minutes, BBC News, NBC, CBS, Fox26, numerous podcasts, and has been featured in various articles around the world. She has also appeared on The DRS TV Show, with Dr. Ian Smith and will appear on HGTV’s TV Show, House Hunters, this coming Fall!

Through her humility, Jamie has inspired the hearts and minds of thousands to create a new lens and conversation about domestic violence and the emotional, mental, and often times, physical impact(s) of it. Jamie proudly serves on the Board of Directors for the Houston Area Women’s Center (HAWC) and Unsilenced Voices (USV); both non-profit organizations support those impacted by domestic violence. She also serves as a Member of the Coalition for the Homeless, The Way Home Continuum of Care (CoC) Steering Committee.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities and skills that has most impacted my journey is integrity, authenticity, and resilience; refusing to give up.

The advice I’d share to others who are early in their journey is to refuse to give up and surround yourself with people who will encourage you and hold you accountable to what you have committed to.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I’d be honored to collaborate with men and women who are leaning into transformative practices to address, solve, and eradicate violence.
