Jamie, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Wayne Dyer says your purpose isn’t a destination – but rather a journey. This shifted my lens about what it means and looks like to find purpose. It’s not so much about landing a dream job, client or getting that car you’ve always wanted. It’s more about the day to day journey. Purpose is acquired when prioritizing what gives you energy each day. It’s in the little glimpses of confidence passed onto us by mentors and people in our arena. It’s in the failures that felt like setbacks, but we’re actually redirections.
To find one’s purpose doesn’t mean to find oneself. Finding oneself actually is discovered when we listen to the little voices we hear in our hearts and the signs that only we see, intended to guide our very next step.
My purpose is to help other female entrepreneurs live out the dream given to them. Whether it’s launching a luxury interior design firm, growing a successful mortgage business or building a product from scratch. I’ve found that it’s in these marketing meetings and brainstorming sessions that I find my best energy. It’s in getting to see the transformation of lives unfold before my eyes because we simply took a risk, pursued an unconventional marketing campaign and put one’s dream in front of thousands of others. Being the cheerleader, the soundboard and the guider for female entrepreneurs has been a joy that remains unmatched – therefore making me believe that this is my compass to purpose.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
First and foremost, emotional intelligence. Being able to put yourself in the shoes of the person sitting across from you in order to get perspective on their challenges, highs and roadblocks is critical in this line of business. Shifting your attitude and approach to better align with the communication style of your counterpart or client, and being able to verbalize your thoughts in a way that makes them feel heard is an underrated skill that many overlook.
Empathy is the currency that will allow you to get close with the people you serve and purchase trust. To understand underlying emotions, frustrations, confusions, joy and confidence will allow you to better understand what your client values. In order to be successful with any project – having scope into the ethics and standards of the brand you’re working with is key.
Forgiveness. This may be brushed off by most readers – but the once’s who face team dynamics, oversee client communications and a position that requires intricacy and attention to detail can relate to this one. Letting go of mistakes and miscommunications as fast as they may happen is a skill that is hard to come by. Forgiving yourself for the long nights, the drained emotional reserves, the missed soccer games, and even that one social post with a typo is one of the most challenging aspects of being a leader.
Learning to move forward without being held back by the past is a skill I continually strive to master.
