Meet Jamie West

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jamie West a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Jamie, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

I’m an only child, so growing up I had to pull myself out of really bad depressions and days. It created a safe haven for me to be who I wanted to be no matter what was going on. I knew that, or at least I thought, nobody would understand or relate—until I started therapy. People around me had support systems and I didnt.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m an Artist, I mostly rap but the vocals are there haha, Im a Model and have started coaching confidence to others like myself or want to get out of their bubble and be comfortable being themselves. Trust me it’s easier said than done.
My brand is all about authenticity and showing people that in todays society you have to love yourself to face the world because no matter what you do
It will ALWAYS be someone who doesn’t approve and will try to take you out of your element.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I would say building a relationship with God first help me understand myself more than anything and learning that life is a lesson and you don’t have to do it perfect as long as you tried is all that matters.
My advice would be to stay persistent throughout it all, progress is just you trying and not giving up is the best way to stretch yourself, so keep moving don’t be stagnant.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

My current challenge is trying to perfect anything and everything I touch, whether it’s the programs I set up for my coaching, my walk and poses for a show, or my delivery and bars on a song.

If none of those things seem right, I tend to say, forget it and go to something else until I’m in the mood to come back to it, which by then I don’t even want to, and will start all over.

So I’m learning that if I like it the first time and I like it a second time to
keep leaning into what I like about said task or idea to help not only build the love for it but to keep doubt away.

When you put something you love out in the universe, you have to tend to it, like a garden.
