Meet Jamie Zayac

We were lucky to catch up with Jamie Zayac recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jamie , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by staying deeply connected to my survival. Creativity is not just a form of expression for me, it is a way to transform pain into purpose. After working as an ICU nurse and experiencing a life-changing injury that nearly took everything from me, I realized that creating was how I made sense of what I had been through.

I draw inspiration from the contrast between opposites like life and death, softness and strength, beauty and loss. Sometimes that means turning a memory into a monologue. Other times it means styling myself as a visual story, using my own image to express what I cannot put into words.

Creativity stays alive in me because I use it to survive. It is not about performing for others. It is about staying honest with myself. And when I let that honesty speak, it becomes the most powerful thing I have to offer.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am an actress with a background in critical care nursing, which has shaped the way I see people, emotions, and the world around me. After working in the ICU and experiencing a serious medical emergency of my own, I reached a point where I knew I could not ignore my passion for storytelling anymore. Acting became the space where I could process what I had been through and offer something meaningful to others.

What I love most about acting is its ability to reflect real human experiences. I am drawn to roles that carry emotional weight and complexity, and I do my best to bring honesty to each character I play. Whether the project is dramatic, psychological, or deeply personal, I approach every performance with care, presence, and a willingness to grow.

Right now I am focused on continuing to build my experience and momentum as a rising actor. I have had the opportunity to be part of several independent films, and I am excited to keep learning, collaborating, and stepping into projects that move people. My goal is not just to perform, but to connect with audiences and bring real depth to the screen.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three of the most important qualities in my journey have been emotional resilience, self-awareness, and adaptability.

Emotional resilience allowed me to keep going when things felt uncertain or overwhelming. Whether it was recovering from my own health crisis or facing rejection in the acting world, learning how to stay grounded through uncertainty has been essential. I would encourage anyone starting out to take care of their inner world first. The industry will test your confidence, so knowing how to protect your energy matters.

Self-awareness helped me recognize when I was playing small or letting fear make decisions for me. The more I understood myself, the more honest my performances became. Spend time understanding your emotional landscape. It will make your work deeper and your decisions clearer.

Adaptability has helped me grow. Coming from nursing into acting meant learning a whole new language, rhythm, and culture. But I stayed open, asked questions, and allowed myself to evolve. I would tell anyone on a new path to stay open to change. Growth does not always look like progress at first, but it often becomes your greatest teacher.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Yes, I am definitely open to connecting and collaborating with others. I am especially interested in working with directors, writers, producers, photographers, and stylists who are passionate about telling powerful stories with emotional depth and strong visual identity. I am drawn to projects that explore transformation, survival, identity, and beauty in unexpected ways.

I also love working with creative teams who value honest expression, strong character work, and a collaborative spirit on set. Whether it is for film, editorial shoots, or content that blurs the line between narrative and art, I am excited to grow alongside others who are pushing creative boundaries.
