We were lucky to catch up with Jamya Smith recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jamya, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
Staying in nature and getting away from the matrix lifestyle we live in. I love noticing the beauty of looking at how the green plants goes well the blue sky. I love to notice the tiniest thing such as the different shades of colours on a brick wall or textures. Making sure I use and stay in tune with my senses and using art to explain how I feel about them instead of taking a picture.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Hi im Jamya and I am an artist but more focus on my clothing brand called Unique Folks Only. I love my brand for so many reasons and the growth that’s happening because of the great support I received. I have new pieces dropping soon and. I really feel like this is my best project yet and I am so excited for people to style it in their own way.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Having patience, gaining confidence, and taking risks. Just keep going forward. It sounds so cliche but that’s all it takes. Dont slow down, stop, turn around, change ways for anyone. Keep moving forward because you will get to the destination.
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
I love to write in my journal. I am currently on my second journal and it has helped me so much last year and i kept writing since. I also pray. I feel like that’s the number one thing I do to put it in God’s hands and have faith.
