Meet Janae Martin

We recently connected with Janae Martin and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Janae, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

I didn’t. LOL! Just kidding! Honestly, imposter syndrome is one of those annoying little things that likes to linger in the background. It’s always there in some way, so I’ve come to see it as a constant work in progress.

Over the years, I’ve learned that my real success isn’t about what others think—good or bad. It’s about how I feel inside. I check in with myself often, noticing what lifts my energy or brings it down, and I focus on staying in a good mental space. That’s been my biggest win. When I’m in control of my mindset, imposter syndrome doesn’t stand a chance!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m Janae Martin, and I specialize in creating beautiful, long-lasting ombré brows through my business, The J Effects. I work primarily with individuals who want to feel confident and radiant without spending hours on their makeup routine. It’s such a joy to help my clients wake up feeling like the best version of themselves.

What’s most exciting about what I do is seeing the transformation—not just in how my clients look, but in how they carry themselves afterward. Brows are such a small part of the face, but they have a huge impact on framing it and boosting confidence. Knowing that I can create something that helps someone feel more beautiful and self-assured is what keeps me passionate about my craft.

Beyond brows, I also juggle my love for real estate, helping first-time homebuyers achieve their dreams of homeownership. Both careers allow me to be a part of transformative moments in people’s lives, and I couldn’t ask for a more rewarding way to spend my days.

At The J Effects, I’m always looking to enhance the experience for my clients. Right now, I’m excited to introduce a loyalty program for returning clients—it’s my way of showing appreciation for the people who trust me with their brows time and time again.

For anyone considering ombré brows, I’d encourage you to schedule a consultation and experience the artistry and care I bring to every appointment. Your confidence is my priority, and I can’t wait to help you put your best face forward

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

As someone who’s always evolving, this is a loaded question—LOL! Self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and self-preservation have been key in my journey. The more I learn about myself and extend grace to myself, the better I can understand and share that grace with others.

Understanding my emotions—what triggers them, how unpredictable they can be, and how to manage them—has helped me connect with people on a deeper level. It’s given me the ability to experience others’ emotions without taking offense, which is invaluable in both of my businesses. My clients trust me with some of the biggest commitments in their lives, and I’d like to think my ability to relate to them, calm their fears, and truly listen plays a big role in that.

Lastly, developing boundaries has been a game changer. Knowing when to say ‘no’ without explanation is freeing and shows who truly values and respects your time and energy. It’s a lesson I wish I’d learned sooner, but it’s made a world of difference in how I show up for myself and for others.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

Between managing two budding businesses, raising a high-energy 7-year-old, and building a strong marriage, I am no stranger to feeling overwhelmed! When it happens, I give myself permission to feel it fully—but I don’t allow myself to stay in that space.

Sometimes I’ll admit it out loud, write it down, or even have a good cry. Once I’ve let that energy out, I shift my focus to finding relief. What do I need? How can I take a small step to lighten the load? That simple act of problem-solving reminds me that overwhelm isn’t permanent—it’s just a moment.

I’ve learned that leaning into those feelings instead of fighting them helps me move through them faster. Life is full of challenges, but when we allow ourselves to feel, process, and then act, we discover how strong we really are.
