Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Janeen McCormick. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Janeen, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Resilience: the capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties; toughness. Resiliency is something that I have developed over many decades. Toughness is not in reference to physical strength. Resiliency is a mental skill. One of my favorite quotes “Your greatest weapon is your mind. Train it to see opportunities, not weaknesses”. Did you know that we don’t need to believe our thoughts!!! For me, this does not come naturally and is the number one skill that I practice daily. You have the control to believe any thoughts. Those thoughts that don’t serve you should move by you quickly. The thoughts that serve your goal stick around and are ruminated on throughout the day.
Setting goals will help drive your resiliency. When you have a target in the future and strive to meet that target you find ways to focus on the thoughts that serve you and discard the ones that don’t. These thoughts help you drive to your goal and create a shield of resiliency around you.
Our resiliency is tested frequently as life throws us curveballs. My resiliency was put to the test 15 years ago when I was first diagnosed with breast cancer. When the cancer came back 3 years later it was much more involved with a year long treatment regimen. That year was intense and scary but my mindset was focused on the goal. I believe my resiliency came from focusing on the priorities and daily activities that where within my control to obtain the goal.
Resiliency is a super power that you can gift yourself. It just takes focus and practice.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am the owner of btone FITNESS Brickyard which is a first of kind in Utah. I have spent my career (30+) years in the corporate world primarily in the medical device industry. I work two jobs; 8-5 on my corporate job and the other hours are spent on my btone business. My goal is to open enough btone’s to quit my corporate job and then go crazy opening up btone’s all over Utah and the West.
Why btone? I fell in love with the Pilates Hybrid full-body resistance and strength based training 3 years ago when I lived in Massachusetts. I love the low impact and the strength that I am building all in a 45-min joyful workout that packs a serious punch. My core has never been stronger. I am a better hiker, cyclist and cross country skier because of btone. The workout isn’t easy, however it’s buildable. Our signature method allows you to start as a beginner and as you build strength you increase your ability to take on new challenges in the workout. This is a workout that you will never be bored with. The workouts change daily and with over 900 moves you will never do the same workout twice. TONEy our trusted customized reformer is state of the art, super comfortable and supports you throughout your workout. We are not your average boutique fitness studio that can be intimidating. It’s absolutely heartwarming hearing the number of people that feel like btone is a special place where you can feel comfortable and supported. All body types and all fitness level thrive here at btone FITNESS Brickyard. Strong looks different here.
Why Utah? I fell in love with Utah when I lived here 30 years ago. My career brought me to Utah and I have always wanted to come back. I love the people, the proximity to the mountains and how easy it is to live here. Building community is very important to me. “People Helping People” has always been a key mantra in my life and what better way to help people but to support their physical and mental strength through an amazing super effective workout. btone FITNESS Brickyard is already supporting local charities that are near and dear to our heart. We look forward to expanding this support and getting more entrenched into the Salt Lake communities as we grow.
Interested in learning more? We have a 2-Week Intro Offer for $49 that gives you access to btone’s amazing workout for 14 days. Our memberships are some of the lowest prices for Pilates that you will see in the Salt Lake Valley. Lock in these membership prices while they last. You can email me at brickyard@btonefitness.com with any questions.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. What is your vision? Set goals to the vision. 2. Don’t quit. Every day consistency. It’s hard but worth it. 3. Mindset. What thoughts are you believing? Set yourself up for success by believing in yourself and your ability to be successful.
Y0u can do it. Surround yourself with people who believe in you and are willing to support you. Do the things no one else is willing to do. Think outside of the box. Be authentic in your interactions with people. Be kind and gracious to yourself as there will be tough days… tomorrow is a new day.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
We would like to collaborate with any and all businesses, groups, teams and more. We want our collaboration and partnering to be a win/win for both of us. If you have a new product and want to do a pop-up to introduce your product to our clientele contact us. If you have a team or group that you think might like to learn more about btone’s super effective workout through a free private class contact us. (For a limited time we are hosting free private classes of 10 to introduce you to our signature method.) It’s a fantastic team building and group fitness activity. btone FITNESS Brickyard is a first of kind in Utah and we know that “word of mouth” spreads faster than any other form of advertisement.
