Meet Janeline Hayes

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Janeline Hayes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Janeline below.

Janeline, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I get it from my parents for sure. I watched my mother who was an immigrant to America in the late 70’s, come here to the states, without knowing English or having relatives, working a numerous grueling jobs to support her family. She never quit despite struggling with her english and the American culture along with having 5 children, living paycheck to paycheck. She just kept at it. My father was a retired Vietnam Vet that served 3 tours, when he retired he had his own trucking company, and kept working non stop around the clock to provide a roof over our heads and put food in our mouths. My parents didn’t have the luxury of relaxing whatsoever. Whatever will power/mindset they had to keep showing up to a world that wasn’t necessarily kind to them is definitely in my blood. As famously quoted from Shawshank Redemption, “Get busy living, or get busy dying”. This is how I saw my parents resilience and my own.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a storyteller 1st and foremost. Right now most of my storytelling is thru my acting opportunities. Whether its booking, auditioning, to being in class or working on passion projects with friends. For me acting didn’t come naturally to me but that’s why I even loved it more, you are always learning and discovering something about yourself and others, regardless if anyone even sees the work. What is also so exciting is being a part of a wonderful story and bringing it to life. Of course booking jobs are amazing, but that doesn’t define my worth or talent. My focus is just to become better and better at storytelling. I will be appearing in brilliant Director Brian McGuire’s upcoming movie, “EIizabeth and Mexican Boy”, produced by LeftHouse Productions. I also pitch for Stranger Comics based in Los Angeles where I get to tell stories by giving pitches about our Lead Protagonist named Niobe. It’s wonderful to see peoples faces light up at the Comic Con booths across the United States when they hear an entertaining story that I told them, that means I did my well job and they will most likely buy a shit load of comic books lol! Please check out Stranger Comics online and welcome to the world of Asunda starting with the first volume The Stranger. I am also a poet and have been published in Lana Turner – A Journal Of Poetry and Opinion, I am in volume No. 15 which was inspired by my personal experience of operating heavy equipment during Covid lock down. Again, please check out and support your writers/poets/thinkers at www.lanaturnerjournal.com.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Having tough skin to endure NO’s and the rejections for all kinds of fucked reasons that you will never know. Acting is not for the faint of heart. 2. If you are not enjoying it or finding the fun in aspects of what you do, even when it can get challenging or feeling discouraged, maybe it’s time to step back and pivot into another direction or take a break to regroup, and there is no shame in that. Find your bliss.
3. There is so much information at your fingertips now, so do the extra homework to learn about everything you want to know. From there reach out to people to ask for suggestions and advice so that you can come to your own conclusion as to what you want for yourself and what you are willing to do, to go after what you want.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I would love to collaborate with new and young upcoming filmmakers. That also includes meeting new Casting Directors and getting on their radar. I just want to make art with cool people that can vibe positively and work hard at crafting something special for an audience. You can contact me thru my agent Courtney Peldon at Aqua talent for bookings and auditions or Dm me directly on my instagram and my handle is IAMJANELINE.
