Meet Janelle Blake

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Janelle Blake. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Janelle below.

Hi Janelle, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I get my work ethic from my mother. She has exceptional work ethic. She demonstrates dedication and perseverance professionally as well as personally. Although she was a young mother she continued her education, receiving a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice and becoming a published author. She has a ” never let a hard time humble you” type of mentality.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m Janelle Blake, a versatile artist navigating the maze of acting and writing, and now delving into the exciting arena of film production. Since the end of the writer’s strike, I’ve been focusing on production of my debut short film, “Red Flags,” a romantic comedy about the dangers of ignoring your intuition. It’s fun and smart, features an amazing cast, and is coming to festivals in the summer of 2024!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the top three things that were most impactful on my journey were making genuine connections with people who truly support you and your vision, resilience, and faith. As far as advice goes, I try not to give it because each journey is unique but if I did give a word of advice it would be have patience and give yourself grace. “You will encounter many defeats but must not be defeated”. ~ Maya Angelou

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
My biggest area of growth in the past 12 months was learning how to let go. I let people, habits, ideas and behaviors that no longer serve me, go. Learning to think like a “stoic”. Control what you can control and let everything else be as it is. This new mindset has lifted a huge weight off of my shoulders.
