Meet Janelle Martinez Cruz

We were lucky to catch up with Janelle Martinez Cruz recently and have shared our conversation below.

Janelle, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?
Sometimes I think about it because I just love seeing the best in everything since I could remember. But, my faith as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses has taught me that there is good to everything whether that is to teach a lesson and grow from something or just to enjoy and embrace the small things.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a Cuban-American artist and designer currently based out of Atlanta, GA. While my work ranges in subject matter, the inspiration behind her work comes from the memories and moments with my family, nature, and the ocean. While pursuing a degree in Graphic Design and Visual Arts, I learned to appreciate all forms of art and learned to tell visual stories. Especially working in florals throughout college. I strive to share positivity, joy, and story through my art. When I’m not in the studio, you can find me on a horse, kayaking, admiring gardens, and spending time with family and friends.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I’d say humility, love, and gratitude are most impactful. The three help stay determined and remember to stay lighthearted in everything I do. The best advice I have is take it day by day but embrace every moment.

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
Honestly, I surround myself by good people and take time to just breathe at a lake. Ive also been a little bit more open to talking about my struggles with a few people. It helps to see I’m not alone but also helps remember things are temporary do enjoy every moment.
