Janelle, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

I believe it takes finding self love to develop confidence and self-esteem. It is hard work to be aware of yourself and to take time to go inwards and learn about yourself. When we take the time each day to connect with our higher selves we develop confidence and self-esteem naturally. To help me do this I use breathing techniques and meditation each morning. I have found that this has helped me develop my confidence and self-esteem the quickest and it has brought me so much more into my life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I have been in the hair industry for over 20 years. Over the years I have come to understand the role our emotions have and how they play an important role in our lives. I feel that through doing hair there was a need for a place where people could come and feel they are loved, worthy and doing their best. I became a hairdresser turned towards healing.

I left the salon and went to a single studio, iAm Beauty, where I offer my guests a one on one soul experience. This allows for safety and an unconditional place of love. During their hair wash they have the option to upgrade to a meditative wash. A meditative wash is a longer session in the bowl when getting your hair wash. This is where I tune into their energy and the energy around them. As I pick up these energies and on what emotions may need to be let go or enhanced, I am inspired in knowing what essential oils we will be using throughout the session. My guest will be asked to focus on their breathing as they inhale the essential oils. They are very comfortable in the wash bowl because they are able to lie completely back on a massage bed with their head in the wash bowl. They also will have comfort with a warm heated blanket over their body. I follow intuition on where they may need a gentle touch on a chakra to release any blocks or built up emotion. I massage their head and neck this allows for relaxation and deeper connection to divinity. The gentle touch on the heart chakra brings connection to oneself and the unconditional love that we are all deserving of. As I move through each chakra to there feet I balance and ground them. A meditative wash is more than just meditating. It is unique to each individual, their needs and desires. It can be healing, awakening, a deeper connection and understanding of others or ourselves, and most importantly, it connects us to divine love.

As I have grown in giving the meditative wash service to my guests, it has led me to create Becoming Beautified Mentoring. This is a program to help people build a strong foundation within oneself. There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I would say 3 qualities that impacted me would be

Listening
Gratitude
And Intuition

Listening because in the beauty industry hairstyles tend to be good talkers as well! Haha… not really allowing for the guest to share. I found as I took a genuine interest in what they wanted to talk about and listen I was able to really hear what look or style they were wanting and how to give them what they wanted. Most people will leave their hair styles because they were not heard. Listening also allows me to have an understanding of that person and their needs.

Gratitude is the key to so many great emotions! When we can find gratitude in the little things it makes everything so much more richer. I keep a gratitude journal and journal in it every day. Gratitude has brought me so much joy and abundance in my life. It has transformed the way I see the world. The way I see others and the way I see myself. A gratitude journal is a great way to get started on becoming more joyful in the everyday doing.

Intuition is the whispers of our heart. Intuition will always lead us in the right direction. Intuition is quiet and steady, and we all have the ability to listen to ours. Through meditation and being still I have learned to always follow my intuition because I know it will always bring good into my life. Intuition leads us to healing. Intuition is our connection to divinity. Trusting your intuition takes a lot of trust in yourself.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

Experiencing anxiety throughout my life, it is usually accompanied with the feelings of being overwhelmed.

I am grateful and proud to say that today I rarely feel overwhelmed. I believe this is because of the years of meditation. Some of the advice or strategies I would give to others who experience, anxiety and feelings of being overwhelmed is it will be OK! Take the time each day to focus on your breathing and learn to meditate. I started with guided meditations and it took me over a year to truly meditate! Meditation does not mean silence in the mind what it means is a stillness and peace in the soul as you observe the thoughts in the mind and the feelings in the body without judgment, I believe that meditation can heal so many of our problems because it’s a one on one with you and source. All things take time to develop and you are worth the time. Only you can choose to change how you feel and see being overwhelmed.
Adding in journaling after your meditation is also a tool that I use to help me when feeling overwhelmed.
