We recently connected with Janet Fichter and have shared our conversation below.
Janet, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
I am who I have always been
Little girl dancing in the wind
Carried away by singing words
When no one else is watching.
I am who I have always been
Little girl loving everyone
Devoted to those held close to heart
Where just a few are watching.
I am who I have always been
Little girl lost in every crowd
Frightened by all the voices loud
Too many people watching.
I am who I have always been
Little girl writing in her room
Escaping to quiet solitude
Where my eyes can be watching.
The one who I would like to be
Still out there, still eluding me
Little girl serving joyously
No care for who is watching.
I am who I have always been
Little girl searching for the truth
Grounded by faith in He who’s good
And in the One Who’s watching.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I write to inspire readers to gain a broader, more spiritual perspective of life’s events. I am the author of a spiritual reflection guide, The Ministry of the Unveiled Face (published by Ambassador, International), and two young adult fantasies, Princess Tiara and the Crown of Virtues, and Princess Tiara and the Battle for Fruitful (both published by At Jesus Feet Publishing). A fourth book, Hope from Habakkuk, should be published in the coming months.
I also maintain an active blog/newsletter (www.atjesusfeet.com) which contains my favorite non-fiction and poetry pieces. I even have a Facebook page on prayer, Prayer Vigil, Jesus’ Sacre Coeur, which offers written prayers for those called to intercede.
Most recently, I’ve developed a few gift items to complement my writing pieces. I currently offer two boxed message card sets as gift items.
Grains of Sand Identity Messages (see images) brings assurance to those who need to know how much God loves them. With so many seeking to understand their purpose and identity, my hope is to assure them they are deeply loved and fully known by God.
Morning, Noon, and Night I Pray, Prayers for Any Time of Day is a set of prayers based on scriptures. Since many struggle to find words to pray, these cards help bring words to their heart cries.
Both sets of boxed message cards are available on my website: www.atjesusfeet.com.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Beyond skills and knowledge or even character qualities, I acknowledge the grace and goodness of God as being most impactful in every aspect of life. The awareness of the bigger picture of the spiritual realm broadens my perspective to craft timely messages regarding the most critical and foundational facets of the life He has blessed me with. Additionally, His endurance with me, helps me persist in composing what I hope are meaningful thoughts for others to chew on. To answer succinctly: 1. God’s grace; 2. A broadened perspective; 3. Endurance.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
Unequivocably, it is The Bible. I receive the large majority of ideas for what I write during times of prayerful Bible study. God imparts wisdom and truth through parable and analogy, after all. These are strategies every writer strives to master, so why not study the book that perfects them?
All of my books are undergirded with the goal of guiding readers to learn about the spiritual realm. Few realize the importance of moving beyond judgment, criticism, generalization and assumption. These are go-to tendencies of human nature which effect our relationships as well as understanding of concepts. Viewing the constrained and limited natural realm through the lens of the immeasurable spiritual realm of God’s kingdom helps us recognize the fallibilities of human reaction.
The Bible has depths and layers of the intricacies of God’s plan for humanity’s redemption. It is a lifelong journey, and a book I read every day.
