Meet Janet Marsh

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Janet Marsh a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Janet, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

Since a young age, I have always stood out from the crowd. The tallest, the darkest, the smartest, the loudest. I was often teased for a speech impediment I’ve had all my life, being unable to pronounce certain words. Having moved away from home at the young age of 18, I HAD to learn how to stand up and take the lead in order to survive. I’ve only had myself to depend on and the drive and determination to be successful and make it on my own caused me to develop the confidence needed to live such a far distance from home. Through the years, that confidence has grown and grown. Each time I succeed at a goal I have set for myself, I move on to another and another. In the end, I believe it is all God Given.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

As the owner of Snow Cone City, I am very excited to tell you all about it! As we approach our 1 year anniversary, coming up in October, 2024, I am excited everyday that I go into my store and know that this is my dream come true! In addition to offering The Best Snow Cones, we also offer “To Go” packages for anyone to enjoy our delicious snow cones at home/church/school/etc. and we cater to businesses by offering them “Prepaid Tickets” for Employee Appreciations.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three most important qualities I would say are first of all, Prayer. I prayed about everything and waited for God to Guide me. Early on, when I was searching for a location, this was key. I looked at many locations before deciding on the spot that we have. Through it all, I was in deep prayer to ensure that the right decision was made.
Second, I would say have a mentor. Someone who is more knowledgeable than you are in business and/or entrepreneurship. It could make a big difference having someone to bounce ideas off of and getting their opinions.
Third, get as much knowledge as you can. There are many programs available, but you may have to seek them out. I took 3 Cohort classes where I gained much knowledge about all aspects of running a business. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Surround yourself with like-minded individuals. Knowledge is Power.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

My biggest obstacle right now is advertising/marketing. We have the setup, but a lot of people just don’t know about us. I am offering summer specials right now. We did a summer contest. I constantly post on all social media platforms. Also, I believe doing articles such as this one will help spread the word about us as well. I encourage Google Reviews from our loyal customers and am looking into more outside signage. People cannot come and patronize if they don’t know we’re here.
