We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Janice DaCosta a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Janice, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by remaining a student of life. This allows me to harness the mindset of striving to be better and more innovative than I was yesterday. This process has been the framework for me falling in love with my purpose of educating, inspiring and motivating people, seeing everything that happens on my journey of life as a clue, and truly accepting everyone I meet along the way as a teacher.
Traveling has also played a role in keeping my creativity alive by allowing me to learn and experience different cultures. I have been blessed to have visited some of the most amazing places around the world from spending three months in Manilla, Philippines, to visiting Dubai, Egypt, Budapest, Guatemala, Yucatan, Tulum and more. Being open to experiencing different cultures has given me a deeper love and appreciation for diversity, culture and continuous creativity.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I provide life coaching and nutrition coaching to people. The most special and exciting thing about what I do is showing people how easy it can be to accomplish their goals with a shift in their mindset. I love hearing my clients say things like, “Wow! I never thought about it that way.”, or “You’re right, why can’t I do that?”. It gives me goose bumps to watch people become empowered in their minds to do the strategic work I assign.
I truly feel what keeps me passionate and relentlessly drives me to help people tap into the greatness in them that they often can’t see, is because it’s personal for me. It’s personal for me because I’ve been there. I will never forget that empty and hopeless feeling that crippled my ability to believe and emotionally move forward. It’s my life’s work to teach people through my products and services the techniques to shift their minds from feeling stuck and stagnant to revived and empowered, along with how to live a healthy lifestyle in the process.
The name of my business is Dream Chasers. My products and services are geared to take people from feeling stuck and stagnant, to feeling revived and empowered in their Mindset, Life Purpose, Health, and Nutrition.
I provide transformational coaching in the form of one-on-one sessions, online courses, and eBooks.
I also provide a variety of signature nutrition programs to set people up for success in areas of health; from detoxes, recipe packs, meal and fitness plans, and much more.
I have a YouTube channel called Dream Chasers that provides informational videos on the “how to’s” of living a healthy lifestyle and staying motivated.
My most recent endeavor has been an online “go at your own pace” mini course called 5 Ways to Eliminate Self-Sabotage.”
5 Ways to Eliminate Self-Sabotage Mini Course is here to help people turn self-sabotage into self-mastery. With this course, people will learn essential in-depth strategies on how to eliminate self-sabotage and clear mental clutter, giving them the peace of mind, they need to reach their goals.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey would be; humility, integrity, and work ethics. Humility keeps me humble in the process of my journey. It reminds me as I master situations, concepts, and areas of life; that I was once a student in those same areas I now master. Remembering that I was once a student and the struggles that came with it, keeps me humble and compassionate to others on their journey. Integrity helps me ensure that every step of the way along my journey that I am honest, and it helped me develop my work ethics and personal core values to hold myself to. Anytime I’m creating products and services, or I don’t quite know how to handle a situation, I always reference my personal core values (work ethics) to ensure I’m integral in all situations.
My advice to anyone early in their journey on how to best develop or improve these qualities would be to first sit with and gain an understanding of how you like to be treated in life and business. Next would be investing the time in personal development in these areas via books, workshops, coaching or videos in those areas.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
One of my favorite books that has played a huge role in my development is, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen Covey. This book will help you lead your life in a truly effective way. It represents a proven process of personal and interpersonal growth that can have an immediate and lasting impact.
Some impactful nuggets of wisdom of the book are:
• Focus your time and energy on things you can control. Work on things that you can do something about- your health, children, parents, problems at work.
• Make a conscious effort to who you are and what you want in life. Don’t let other people and other circumstances around you to shape you and your life. You want to be in full control of your life.
• Recognize that it’s OK to not do everything that comes along. There is no need to overextend yourself. Realize that it’s absolutely fine to say no when necessary and then focus on your highest priorities .
• Win-Win is a frame of mind and heart that seeks mutual benefit in all interactions.
