Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Janine Aquino. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Janine, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
It’s a combination of factors as to why I have a certain type of confidence and self-esteem. I have always allowed myself to make mistakes because inevitably, that is how you learn. For me, another factor is how I grew up. I grew up in a dysfunctional environment where chaos reigned. I was constantly trying to figure out how to make my situation more even-keeled, so I had to handle all types of personalities and the chaos made me a stronger person. As an adult, when I see situations that might look to others as volatile, those situations do not bother me. I seem to thrive in chaotic situations. Lastly, I have never really listened to anyone about how I “should” do something. I am not sure where that comes from, but it’s always been important to me to think outside of the box and figure out a way to accomplish what I set out to do.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I own Aquino Baron Consulting. We are an agritourism and winery consulting company, and we focus on operations, strategic planning, transitional ownership, revenue growth, and problem-solving. We also work with start-up entrepreneurs and guide them through the process of owning a business, especially if it’s their first time owning one. We work remotely and in person. I enjoy seeing others succeed and it becomes even more rewarding if I can be a part of helping someone achieve their goals.
I am a real estate agent specializing in wineries and farms. This was a direct result of my consulting company, whereby my clients were looking for certain types of agricultural businesses and I noticed there weren’t any other agents who specialized in this field, so I became an agent to assist my clients.
I’ve been in the winery, agricultural, and entrepreneurial space pretty much my entire life. We grew up on a hobby farm and grew a vineyard, orchards, flowers, vegetables, and herbs. I have worked at many farmer’s markets and wineries. in New York before moving to Ohio where I owned and operated a winery and restaurant for 10 years. Currently, I am in Virginia and have helped many wineries and farms with their operations.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities:
– Persistence and never giving up
– Confidence and knowing you can adapt to all situations
– Learning from your mistakes
If you allow yourself to be humble, learn from others, and be ok with making mistakes, you will be ahead of the game. If you set your eyes on a goal, stay persistent, don’t listen to negativity, and don’t give up!
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always looking for people to collaborate with. You never know how we can help each other out. I look at collaborating as networking. Anyone in the farm space, winery and craft alcohol space are people I like to work with.
