We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Janine Davis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Janine below.
Hi Janine, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Growing up I was incredibly shy. I actually dropped out of kindergarten (if that’s such a thing) I just didn’t like being around people I didn’t know. Exhausted by my daily “crying and whining”, my mom eventually gave in and said I didn’t have to go back. I stayed with my grandmother during the day – loads of fun for a 5 year old – eating. watching TV, games, etc.
By first grade, I was a mess. Absolutely no social skills . I had not interacted with anyone my age. After daily ‘crying sessions’, My first grade teacher gave me an option to join the group or get paddled. I chose to join group.
So I learned to engage with others and eventually made friends. But that was only the beginning of my journey to building self confidence. By 8th grade, I was still somewhat shy and stayed away from anything unfamiliar. My mom wasn’t having it.
She placed me in every “new” and “unfamiliar “ opportunity she could. From dance, piano, ballet, pageants to the church youth choir, my mom was determined to get me outside of my box. And it worked. I got more comfortable being around people, experiencing new things and I finally fell upon the world of theatre.
Drama became my second home in middle and high school. I was a part of a drama club that exposed me to different cities through competitions. I’d win Best Actress and Honorable mentions. I already excelled in English, public speaking so it became a natural fit.
So, I have to give my mom credit for pushing me to do the things I never wanted to do. I got used to doing the very things that made me uncomfortable, And it was doing those things that built my confidence.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a radio personality, hosting my own radio show – The Janine Davis Show.. My top-rated show airs weekdays 10am-3pm on V 101.9FM in Charlotte, NC..
Though my station is music-intensive (playing throwbacks & today’s R&B), I create my own content that keeps listeners informed, entertained and inspired. One of the most popular features on my show is “JD’s Inspirational Moments”, where in 60-seconds I share a real-life moment of a triumph or trial then tie it in with a biblical lesson.
I’ve turned that radio feature into a book —“JD’s Inspirational Moments.” I’m excited to say I’m now a published author. And in a new space! In addition to my radio job, I now host a series of book club opportunities that I call the “Ultimate Book Club Experience”. It entails my joining groups interested in the book, and offering a reading, Q&A, audience sharing, inspiration and a book signing. I’ve been hosted by small to large book clubs as well as women’s & men’s social & professional groups, churches, nonprofits, healthcare groups and schools. And of course, I’m thrilled to enter the corporate space with “JD’s Inspirational Moments..” That includes bookstores, banks, car dealerships, retailers, beauty and fashion, etc. Wherever there is a need for inspiration & clarity, as I write in the book, I want to help people land in a place where they will flourish in purpose.
My book is available at www.janinedavis.com and on Amazon.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Self reflection- I’ve learned to take moments of quiet to figure out what I’m doing and why. In today’s fast-paced society, it’s easy to get lost in my “To-do list”. So it’s important for me to set aside daily quiet time. Usually it’s 10-20 minutes in the morning before I start my day, I’ll have devotion, set intention and remember my why. And my why is being obedient (to God), and doing my best to give to others.
2. Communication – Being aware of other people’s feelings, thoughts, attitudes and being able to communicate your own at the same time is a learned skill. I’ve learned that’s important because we all need each other to get things done. It’s challenging to get things done if I can’t convey to you what needs to be done in a way you understand and will want to carry out the task. People respond based on how you make them feel.
3. Energy – How one shows up is important. I’ve found what I put out, is what I get back . If it’s good. positive annd helpful energy, I’m likely to receive that. If it’s doom and gloom, likewise. I try to practice the golden rule —treat others how you want to be treated.
4. Authenticity- No one likes fake and it can be detected a mile away. I have learned to be true to myself & honest. People appreciate truth. It attracts respect.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I have learned that it’s a great trait to work hard, however I’ve also learned the victory can be even sweeter if I work smarter, too!
That’s why I am looking for teammates who like me, are driven and excel in these areas:
– social media (creating ideas for my brand & can execute them)
– virtual assistant
– overall doer (can help plan & execute the vision, very tactical person)
