Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Janisa Camille. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Janisa, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I always say — I didn’t find my purpose; my purpose found me. 🌿
It came to me through experience, through pain, and through remembrance. Every challenge, every loss, every birth I’ve attended has been a mirror reflecting pieces of who I was always meant to become. My purpose didn’t arrive in a moment of clarity — it unfolded through service, through spirit, and through surrender.
As I began walking deeper into this work, I realized that what I do isn’t just birthwork — it’s soul work. Every womb I’ve touched, every family I’ve guided, every spirit I’ve ushered earthside reminded me that my calling wasn’t something I had to chase… it was something I had to remember.
My path is rooted in ancestral wisdom and divine remembrance — of my lineage, my power, and the women who came before me whispering, “These hands heal.” Once I stopped running from my own reflection, I realized I had been walking in my purpose all along.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Child of Ifá | Iya Okin | Mama Divine | Minister | Founder of Doula of the Divine LLC
Meet ordained minister, Janisa Camille, known in the spiritual realm as Ifa Toyin and affectionately called Iya Okin, which means “Mother of the Royal Peacock”—a sacred title that reflects her divine presence, spiritual wisdom, and vibrant leadership. In the hearts of her community, she is Mama Divine—the one who nurtures with deep love, protects with fierce intention, and anchors others in the power of their purpose.
As the founder of Doula of the Divine LLC, Janisa stands as a visionary, spiritual birthkeeper, and healer whose work is rooted in Ifá tradition, gullah geechee and Taino culture, ancestral medicine, and Black maternal advocacy. Her services—offered in Atlanta, Georgia and virtually annd in person across the globe—are a spiritual sanctuary for those navigating fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, womb trauma, and loss.
A Georgia state capitol, community certified full-spectrum doula, kemetic yoga instructor womb healer, seen on LHHATL season 13, episode 10, and ceremonial guide, Janisa integrates mindfulness, movement, ritual, and traditional wisdom into every offering. She supports women as they heal the sacred center of their being—the womb—and reconnect with their power, voice, and divine assignment. Her womb work is expansive and layered: from energetic healing and yoni steaming to postpartum belly binding, emotional release, and ancestral rituals.
Her Ifá and hoodoo practice flows into her birthwork through river cleanses, spiritual baths, intuitive divination, and ceremonial offerings, creating holistic pathways for women to be seen, supported, and spiritually aligned. Janisa does not simply hold space—she opens portals of remembrance for women to reclaim their sovereignty.
Janisa is the creator and founder of several transformative offerings:
The Divine Doula Agency, a collective designed to help Black and Brown mothers find culturally aligned doulas while building a home for doulas to thrive, be supported, and walk in their sacred calling.
The Divine Hands Doula & Midwifery Emulsion, a spiritually immersive training school grounded in traditional birthwork and ancestral healing.
The Divine Tribe Doula Business Mentorship, which has guided over 100 doulas through spiritual and professional alignment.
The Annual Black Birthworkers Brunch, had its fourth and final year, celebrating Black and Brown birthworkers through education, sisterhood, ritual, and joy… be on the lookout for something bigger to come!
Janisa’s journey began with the virtual community Mom Jeans on Me, where she brought taboo motherhood topics to light and began her path of healing through storytelling, community, and vulnerability. That space would become the foundation for a global legacy of care, creativity, and connection.
As a mother first, Janisa leads from the heart. She’s been honored to support:
150+ Divine Births
50+ Wombs Healed
100+ Divine Mentees Globally
70+ Divine Hands Certified Doulas Globally
With a calling that stretches beyond this lifetime, **Janisa Camille—Ifa Toyin, Iya Okin, Mama Divine—** continues to build sacred spaces for women to rise. Her work is an offering to the ancestors, to her community, and to the generations yet to be born.
And this is only the beginning. 2026 and beyond holds more rituals, more healing, and more remembrance—for the Divine always multiplies.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been empathy, intuition, and discipline.
Empathy allows me to serve from a place of compassion — to truly see people beyond their stories and support them through their most sacred, vulnerable moments. Intuition guides my hands and my words; it’s what connects me to Spirit, the ancestors, and the unseen wisdom that moves through every birth, ceremony, and healing space. And discipline grounds it all — because purpose without structure can easily turn into burnout.
For those early in their journey, my advice is simple: trust your becoming. Study the craft, but also study yourself. Learn to listen deeply — to your clients, your intuition, and your body. Keep showing up, even when it feels uncomfortable, because mastery is born from consistency, not perfection.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was feed and invest in whatever it was I wanted to do from a young age — no matter how big, creative, or unconventional the dream seemed. They never boxed me in; they nurtured my curiosity and taught me that my voice and vision mattered.
Beyond support, they instilled in me good character, resilience, and work ethic — the understanding that nothing worth having comes without intention and consistency. Watching them navigate life with strength and faith showed me how to turn obstacles into opportunities and how to stand firm in who I am, even when the world doesn’t understand my path.
Their belief in me planted the seeds of confidence and courage that still bloom in everything I do today as a mother, mentor, and healer.
