Meet Jannetta Cox

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jannetta Cox a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Jannetta , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

The first example of a strong work ethic I witnessed came from my father. He grew up in Nigeria and immigrated to the United States as a young adult, determined to build a better life for himself. No matter the challenges he faced, he never stopped working tirelessly to achieve his goals and care for our family. Growing up, I saw this same dedication in both my father and my mother, and their perseverance inspired me to develop a strong work ethic of my own, regardless of the obstacles in my path.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Hi there! My name is Jannetta Cox, and I run a small business specializing in User-Generated Content (UGC) for a variety of brands. For those unfamiliar, UGC is a unique form of content creation where everyday people—like you and me—produce videos or photos showcasing a brand’s benefits and usefulness. Unlike traditional influencers, UGC creators don’t need a large following since the content is sent directly to the brand rather than being posted on personal social media platforms.

Creating content has truly become my passion, and I love the creativity and connection it brings. In addition to running my business, I also work full-time, am a wife, and a mom. Each of these roles brings out a different side of me, and I cherish the balance they create in my life.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three key skills that have shaped my journey are communication, consistency, and digital media expertise.

With a B.S. in Communication – Media Studies, I’ve learned the power of both verbal and nonverbal communication, which is essential for collaborating with clients. It helps me understand their vision while allowing them to see my value as a creator.

Consistency is just as important. Running a business comes with highs and lows, but staying committed despite fluctuations has been crucial to growth.

Lastly, digital media skills play a major role in content creation. Understanding trends and mastering various tools ensures I can produce high-quality, engaging content.

For anyone looking to improve in these areas, I recommend keeping an open mind, doing thorough research, and pushing through challenges rather than giving up when things get tough.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

As someone who believes in God, prayer is always my go-to. It helps center me and brings a sense of peace, no matter what’s going on. I also make it a point to prioritize rest and breaks. A lot of times, we treat rest like a reward when it’s really a necessity. Taking time to recharge clears my mind and helps me get back on track.
