We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jared Lachner a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jared, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I found my purpose through art. It’s always been something that brought me a sense of peace, and in that peace I found clarity and direction. For me, that became a guiding principle—when you’re thinking about what to pursue, it helps to pay attention to the things that naturally ground you and bring you a sense of calm.
I started drawing at a young age as a way to process the tragedy of 9/11 and Flight 587. Growing up in Rockaway Beach, it was difficult to fully understand everything that was happening around me, but art gave me an outlet. It helped me make sense of things I didn’t yet have the words for.
Over time, that turned into something more than just a coping mechanism—it became a passion. That early connection to art is what ultimately led me toward a creative path and the work I do today.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m an artist and designer focused on making the world feel more creative and more beautiful. I’ve always been drawn to color and self-expression, and a lot of my work centers around transforming everyday pieces—clothing, hats, and especially sneakers—into one-of-a-kind works of art.
Sneaker culture has always been something I’ve connected with, so being able to create directly on shoes feels like a natural intersection of everything I love. It’s where art, culture, and personal identity all come together.
What makes my work unique is that it’s very intuitive and free-flowing. I don’t usually plan out designs in a rigid way. Instead, I start with a color palette and let the piece evolve organically, channeling how I’m feeling in the moment. Each piece ends up being completely original and tied to a specific energy or emotion, which makes the process just as meaningful as the final result.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities that have had the biggest impact on my journey are drive, self-belief, and passion.
My drive keeps me showing up consistently, even when things aren’t easy or clear. Self-belief has been just as important—trusting that if I’m creating from a place of genuine happiness and putting care into my work, something meaningful will come from it. And passion is essential in anything creative. If you don’t love what you’re doing, it’s hard to stay committed through the ups and downs.
I also think a big part of my work comes from who I am as a person. I try to approach things with a lot of positivity and intention, and that energy naturally shows up in the art I create.
I’m still early in my journey myself, but one piece of advice I’d give is to protect your mindset. There will always be doubt—both from others and from within—but it’s important not to let that become the loudest voice in your head. Stay focused on what you’re building, block out the noise, and keep believing in your path. More than anything, you have to truly believe it will work out—and then back that up with consistent effort.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Yes—I’m always open to collaborating with like-minded individuals.
I’ve always been a team-first person. I grew up playing sports, and for the past decade I’ve played rugby at a competitive level, recently transitioning into coaching. That background has shaped how I approach everything I do—I truly believe that great things come from strong collaboration. Teamwork really does make the dream work, and that mindset carries over into my creative process.
I also recognize that everyone brings different strengths to the table. Where one person has limitations, someone else has a different perspective or skill set, and that combination is what leads to something truly unique.
I’m especially interested in connecting with creatives, designers, brands, and anyone working within or around art, fashion, and sneaker culture who values originality and collaboration.
