We recently connected with Jared & Lauren Bowser and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jared & Lauren, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Our work ethic was instilled in us from our parents at a young age. They worked hard, and through their example, it showed us the importance of having a strong work ethic. Nobody wants to hire someone who is lazy or someone who doesn’t see things through until the end. We have found that it’s always beneficial to always try and do your best and not cut corners when it comes to work.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
We are a photography and videography duo who also happen to be married! Based in Jacksonville, Florida, we specialize in shooting weddings. We try our best to capture these events in a candid and natural way, focusing on the real moments that happen instead of trying to pose every shot. This job takes us around the country and other parts of the world often so it’s very exciting and special to us that we get to work with each other and experience it together.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I’d say the three most important skills that were impactful in our journey were learning how to use your camera, and use it correctly, becoming competent on whatever editing platform you’re using, and learning how to communicate your vision, or direct, your client when shooting in a way that still maintains the natural feel you’re going for. If you’re unsure how to achieve any of these, we recommend doing your homework. There is a wealth of online resources these days that discuss all of these topics!
Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
Our ideal client is someone who values what we have to offer, trusts us to create, and gives us the freedom to lead on their wedding day. We do our best work when we are not working off a shot list, but capturing organic moments and emotion throughout the day. We love when clients show their personalities through unique wedding details and aren’t afraid to truly make the day their own. We are also big fans of intimate and non-traditional weddings!
