Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Jasen with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
Since the age of 12, I have been driven by a deep passion for basketball, pursuing my dream of playing professionally. While attending Cuyamaca College, my life took a transformative turn with the birth of my daughter, Jade. This pivotal moment led me to step away from my aspirations and focus on providing for my family, taking on various jobs to support them.
Despite stepping off the court, my love for basketball never wavered. In 2015, I rediscovered my purpose when I began training my children in the sport that had always been close to my heart. Through this journey, I identified a gap in the sports apparel industry and was inspired to create “Just Love Hustle,” a brand that combines my passion for basketball with a commitment to celebrating hard work, determination, and perseverance.
Today, ”Just Love Hustle” represents more than just apparel—it’s a reflection of my journey, values, and dedication to inspiring others to pursue their dreams with relentless effort and heart.

What sets us apart is that our family’s hustle—both on and off the court—inspires everything we create. Each member of the team brings unique strengths to the brand. My youngest, Jaylene, channels her creativity into graphic design, while my son, Jr., adds a personal touch through his customization work. My oldest, Jade, combines her passion for fashion with behind-the-scenes work and photography, all while excelling in college with a 4.0 GPA. At the same time, Jaylene and Jr. balance the demands of being student-athletes while maintaining a 3.8 GPA. Together, we turn our dedication, creativity, and values into a brand that truly embodies the spirit of the hustle. As the leader of the brand, I oversee its creative direction and financial management, ensuring that our designs and marketing strategies align with our vision for excellence. I also build strong partnerships with clothing manufacturers and vendors to ensure the highest quality standards. Beyond the brand, my passion for basketball extends into the community through “Just Love Hoops”, my nonprofit organization. With “Just Love Hoops” my mission is to teach and train youth in basketball fundamentals, instill the values of sportsmanship, and provide exposure opportunities that can lead to scholarships. By empowering young athletes on and off the court, I aim to help them build skills, character, and a pathway to success.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Throughout my journey, the qualities that have shaped me and defined my path are patience, hard work, and consistency. These principles were not only essential in overcoming challenges but also became the foundation of “Just Love Hustle”.
Patience taught me to embrace the process, understanding that success is built step by step. Hard work reminded me that effort is the key to turning dreams into reality, and consistency ensured that I showed up every day, no matter the circumstances. These values, instilled through my experiences on and off the court, are woven into the fabric of our clothing and our brand’s identity. “Just Love Hustle” isn’t just about apparel—it’s a celebration of these timeless qualities that inspire resilience, determination, and growth in everyone who wears it.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My oldest daughter, Jade, has been an integral part of “Just Love Hustle”. Her talent behind the camera has not only captured the essence of our brand but also immortalized monumental moments for our family. Last season, Jade documented my youngest daughter, Jaylene, dominating on the court, where she led the nation in scoring as a freshman with 40ppg. Her ability to highlight Jaylene’s incredible achievements brought those moments to life for a wider audience. At the same time, my son, Jr., made his mark by helping lead his team to a CIF championship as a freshman. These achievements are not just family milestones—they embody the high values of dedication, perseverance, and excellence that inspire everything we do at “Just Love Hustle”. Through Jade’s work, these moments have been captured and celebrated, further solidifying the legacy of our brand and the spirit it represents.
