Meet Jasmine Bowen

We recently connected with Jasmine Bowen and have shared our conversation below.

Jasmine, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I found my purpose through a combination of my passions—history, theater, and storytelling—and the influence of my family, especially my grandmother. From a young age, she took me to museums every weekend, instilling a deep love for historical places. At the same time, I had a strong passion for acting, which led me into the world of performance.

As I grew older, I noticed that museums and historical sites were struggling to engage modern audiences. I saw an opportunity to merge my love of theater with my desire to make history accessible and exciting for people of all ages. That’s how Live History was born—a company dedicated to bringing history to life through immersive, site-specific performances.

Finding my purpose wasn’t a single moment but a journey. It came from recognizing the intersection of my skills, passions, and the needs of the world around me. Live History allows me to create engaging, interactive experiences that connect people with the past in a way that’s meaningful and unforgettable.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’m the founder and owner of Live History, a theater company that specializes in immersive, site-specific performances that bring history to life. My background is in acting, and my passion for storytelling and history led me to create a company that bridges the gap between traditional museums and modern audiences. We craft interactive, theatrical experiences tailored to historic sites, museums, and cultural landmarks, engaging visitors in a way that makes history feel personal and alive.

What makes Live History unique is our ability to transform any historical space into a stage. Our performances blend mystery, escape-room-style problem-solving, and audience participation, ensuring that every show is different and tailored to the location’s unique history. Whether it’s a grand castle, a small-town museum, or even a battleship, we customize our scripts and characters to reflect the real stories of the people who lived and worked there.

What excites me the most is the ability to make history accessible and engaging for everyone. Many people think of history as something static—something in a book or behind glass. But history is full of real people with emotions, struggles, and triumphs. Through Live History, we give audiences the chance to step into their shoes and experience history firsthand.

Professionally, I’m focused on expanding Live History into new markets. We’ve performed in over 300 venues across Canada, the U.S., Australia, the U.K., New Zealand, and Bermuda, and we’re always looking for new historical sites and partners to collaborate with. We also continue to innovate, incorporating digital elements, immersive technology, and fresh storytelling techniques to enhance our performances.

We are currently developing a new show that gives audiences a full day of immersive experiences from morning to overnight. It’s very exciting!

At its core, Live History is about connecting people to the past in a meaningful way. Whether someone is stepping into one of our shows for the first time or has been attending for years, I want them to walk away feeling like they were part of something bigger—a story that continues to live on.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, three key qualities have been the most impactful in my journey: adaptability, creativity, and relationship-building.

1. Adaptability
Live History has grown from a small idea into a global company, and that wouldn’t have been possible without adaptability. Every venue, every audience, and every challenge requires a different approach. Whether it was pivoting during the pandemic to offer virtual experiences or customizing performances for new cultures and historical sites, being able to adjust quickly has been crucial.

Advice: For those starting out, embrace change instead of fearing it. The world is constantly shifting, and success comes from being flexible and open to new ideas. Try new things, experiment, and be willing to learn from mistakes.

2. Creativity
Creativity is at the heart of everything Live History does. We take historical facts and turn them into compelling, interactive experiences that audiences want to be a part of. Thinking outside the box has allowed us to reimagine how people engage with history and has helped us stand out in a crowded entertainment industry.

Advice: Creativity isn’t just for artists—it’s for problem-solvers. Challenge yourself to see things differently. Read widely, explore other industries, and never stop learning. If you’re in a creative field, practice daily and push yourself beyond your comfort zone.

3. Relationship-Building
Live History thrives on partnerships—with museums, cultural sites, tourism boards, and talented performers around the world. Building strong relationships has helped us expand into new regions, collaborate on meaningful projects, and grow into a recognized brand.

Advice: Never underestimate the power of genuine connections. Networking isn’t just about selling yourself; it’s about listening, supporting others, and creating opportunities for mutual growth. If you’re just starting out, focus on nurturing real relationships, not just collecting contacts.

Final Thought: Success is never a straight path. Being adaptable, creative, and relationship-driven has shaped my journey, and I encourage anyone starting out to focus on these skills. Keep learning, keep growing, and most importantly—keep going!

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Absolutely! Live History is always looking to partner and collaborate with museums, historic sites, libraries, cultural institutions, tourism organizations, and heritage properties that want to engage their audiences in a fresh, interactive way. Our performances are designed to bring history to life, immersing visitors in the stories of the past while making historical spaces more dynamic and engaging.

We work with venues of all sizes, from small-town museums to grand estates, castles, and even battleships! Whether you’re looking for a one-time event, a seasonal program, or a long-term interactive experience, we tailor our performances to fit your unique history and audience.
