We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jasmine Capacete. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jasmine below.
Jasmine, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My parents! Although I have been fortunate enough to live a privileged life, my parents have always reminded me that good things never come easy – they require work! So even though I knew I could depend on my parents if I ever needed to, I knew that if I really wanted something in life, no matter what it was, I was going to be the one that had to put in the work to achieve it, not them. After witnessing the hard work they have put into creating a comfortable life for themselves and for my sister and I, it inspired me to continue to work hard – because I too want to create a comfortable life, not only for my future self, but for my future family as well.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I have been working in social media marketing since 2017. Before social media ever came into the picture, I had always had a passion for photography and videography. It stemmed from the age of 12 years old when I was gifted my first little pink Sony digital camera. From that point on, I was snapping away – taking photos of anything and everything – and playing around with editing softwares, learning how to convey stories and emotions through videos and still images. From this point on, I always envisioned myself working in a field that would allow me to use my creativity to help others, but I was never sure about what that job would look like exactly. It wasn’t until 2017, when I landed my first internship as a social media assistant working for a loan officer. That internship eventually ended up turning into my career. Throughout the last 7 years, I witnessed firsthand just how powerful utilizing social media can be for businesses after we were successfully able to build an online community of 500k followers across Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, and TikTok. This was when I realized social media marketing is the perfect place for me to utilize my creativity to help other businesses grow through the use of creating compelling content. As of right now, I have been freelancing for about 6 months, and although it has been stressful working on my own, I am reminded everyday why I do what I do when I see how happy my clients are with the content I have made for them and the results it has brought them. I can’t wait to see what the future holds and hope to one day expand my business and bring on a team of other creatives who share the same passion for helping others, so we can continue to help build other businesses and brands along the way, while having fun creating!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, I don’t think I would have came to this point in my life if I wasn’t taught resilience, the importance of taking risks, and being passionate about what I do. There have been many times in my life where I have failed and thought I would never achieve the things that I wanted in life, only to learn that all of those failures redirected me to something better that was going to push me even further than I ever thought could be possible. Having this mindset has helped me tremendously, especially during those days where I start to doubt myself. I just remind myself that bad days are going to come, but just like every other time, it gets better. So I keep pushing and I always believe in my heart that what I want is already mine.
If there’s any advice I would pass onto others, it would be just that – don’t give up – and also, don’t be afraid to take risks. Sometimes you have to get uncomfortable, and step into the unknown to get to where you want in life. Your journey is YOUR journey – it may not look like everyone else’s. As long as you have the drive and passion for something, believe that dream is already yours, and set small goals every day and week will help you get there.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Atomic Habits by James Clear is the one book I read over and over again!! Especially whenever I start to feel overwhelmed. It was this book that taught me the importance of setting little goals every day and week that will eventually get you to where you want to be in life. As long as you set small goals every day, you are getting 1% better everyday. Those tiny improvements will create tremendous results in the long run. I am the type of person that can have a million ideas in their head and can get overwhelmed by it, because I want to do everything all at once, and eventually I become paralyzed and don’t know where to start. So learning how to set small goals every day/week, and focus on those goals, has helped me stay on track and work more productively.
