We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jasmine Dos Santos. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jasmine below.
Jasmine, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
In complete honesty, I didn’t! I still feel like an imposter sometimes. The way I overcome feeling like an imposter when it comes to being a creative is to constantly remind myself that I am capable and that it’s okay to not always know what you’re doing. As long as I feel like I am putting effort into my work and I love what I do, then I could never be an imposter as a creative.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am Jasmine Dos Santos and I am a costumer and stylist. I graduated in the class of 2021 from Western Carolina University’s School of Stage and Screen with a bachelors in Theatre and Film with a focus in costume design. I now have a small business called Moonlit Trends, where I make clothes, bags, and accessories; mainly from pre-loved clothing. Like any artist, I have a pay the bills job where I sell toys and collectibles. However, in my free time I am sewing, designing, making jewelry, working on short films, and creating for my small business. I have recently focused myself on style and fashion, attempting to broaden my artistic vision when it comes to day to day outfits.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think three important things for me on my artistic journey have been learning how to take time away from work, determination, and knowing how to take care of a sewing machine. Take care of yourself, take care of your tools, and do the damn thing!

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
The people who have helped me most in my creative journey has been my mentors for sure. The best mentors become your friends and I have this awesome connection with one of my mentors. My costume design professor in college, Victoria Depew, has definitely had my back this whole way. When I was her student, of course she helped me develop essential skills I need for my craft, it was her job, but even since I’ve graduated she has continued to show her support to my art and is always a phone call away if I need advice or even just an educated opinion.
