We were lucky to catch up with Jasmine Hampton recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jasmine, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
When it comes to finding your purpose, it’s not always cut and dry. Sometimes your purpose is found through the things you experience in life. Most times those experience is through trials and tribulations. Some people know their purpose in their youth as soon as they are able to. For me, I always knew I wanted to help people but I didn’t know it would lead to the profession I practice in right now. The details of my purpose weren’t revealed to me until I became a young mother and experienced a couple mental health diagnosis ( anxiety and depression). Through my journey of learning how to become better and overcome these conditions, I not only began to care for myself by being treated by medical professionals but I learned that it’s important to take care of myself on a day to day basis. My motto is “self-love is self-care and self-care is self-love). God revealed to me that I was to create a platform and space for women to feel safe and have a moment of self-care. Because I learned the impact that taking care of myself had on my mental health and the way I care for those around me, it was important for me to provide that for other women. I found my purpose through my mental wellness journey and through my passion for pouring into women and uplifting them.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My name is Jasmine Jenee’. on a day to day basis I’m a wife, mother of 4 beautiful children, entrepreneur, author, and self-love coach. God has blessed me with the ability and gifts to help women on their self-care journey from what I have gained through struggles with love and prioritizing myself. My practice J.Jenee’ Spa & Wellness was birth through my own self-care journey and has been a great impact in the community by providing a safe space of healing for women. Through massage and relaxing skincare services women are provided with the opportunity to take care of themselves and show themselves uninterrupted love. Through touch and conversation a release is created internally and externally for my clients. just to give you a look into how my services are beneficial, according to research presented by Mayo Clinic, “massage and touch can lower the amount of cortisol in your body. This hormone is produced when your body is stressed. It increases glucose in your bloodstream, enhances your brain’s use of glucose and curbs functions that are nonessential in a fight-or-flight situation. Serotonin is also released in this process. This hormone neurotransmitter is sometimes called the “happy chemical” because it reduces feelings of depression and carries signals between nerves and your body. By lowering cortisol and increasing serotonin, you’re boosting your body’s ability to fight off pain, anxiety and feelings of sadness.”
Through my work the above research proves itself to be true with so many more benefits.
While working through my own journey of self-care and wellness, I learned the importance of taking care of the body and mind allowing space to relax and release. Like many of my clients and women out there, I too have had my share of anxiety, stress and depression but never took the time to stop and focus on my physical as I was working on my mental. When we make a plan to improve in both the physical and mental space it promotes healthy emotional health. My purpose has allowed me to create a platform that helps other women on their own journey of becoming better. In my spa it is more than just a service. It is an experience and what I like to call a mini getaway. I build relationships with my clients and let them know I care and what I am able to help with, I am here to help. It’s a community of empowerment and growth. Not only are the appointments I provide amazing but one of the most important pieces of my business is the connection of pouring into women spiritually. So imagine the power of God, the intentional touch of relaxation, and serotonin being released! From the moment you step through the door, you’re instantly in a calm headspace and spirit space. When my clients book, it is my intent to provide them with a moment of a lifetime. Since the existence and impact of the spa I have been able to expand into self-love & wellness coaching. As the need for community and sisterhood presented itself, I have been blessed through the spa with 2 additional portions of my brand. A Brunch of Moms & The Visionary has created space for me to help women prioritize their goals and set systems to achieve.
In the upcoming months J. Jenee’ Spa & Wellness has the opportunity to sit on panels, participate in pop up shops, partner with local organizations for various business certifications and trainings and so much more. Every piece of my brand correlates back to wellness and the betterment of oneself.
One of my favorite things to do as a wellness and self-care exercise is write. At the end of spring I will release a new wellness journal “It’s Not on You, It’s in You”. I will also be re-releasing my natural product line of body scrubs and oils that will be available at jjeneespa.com. I will also be gearing up for my next Brunch of Moms event that I hold annually for “mothers evolving through self-love”
In the coming months I look forward to growth and expansion to make continued impact and positive influence in my community. Small businesses are capable of doing big things.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
For those starting out consistency and discipline is a must. With discipline you will show up no matter what is going on or how you feel. The first thing I’d said is don’t despise small beginnings. In today’s society, we’re always looking for the quickest come up and that is so unrealistic when you are operating in your purpose. Operating in your purpose takes time. So patience and the ability to not compete, compare nor criticize is important. You must focus on what God has assigned you to do. Not what anyone else is telling you to do unless they were sent to help you. It is critical to have a spirit of discernment and a heart of integrity. Your small beginnings is a great set up for a solid foundation. Set up goals and systems according to their importance. It will keep you on track on what you need to complete.
Second, make sure whatever you chose to pursue is something you love so much that you’d do it for free if you had to. Why? because you will provide the same intent and love in that thing. Because there will be moments in your journey where you have to give to make those genuine community connections and gain support through exposure. But because you still give your best people will remember you and your brand. It’s not always about what people can do for you but how can you be of help to them. When you give, you shall receive. Find local organizations and see how you may be able to help them.
Finally, I don’t think some will expect this one. But for me it’s KEEP GOD FIRST. There will be times in the start of your journey that you will want to walk away because things may not be going as you planned. Having a relationship with God will get you through it all. He’ll direct you when to walk away, when to expand, who and what to collab with and so much more. It’s a quality of faith to know that what God has promised you will be provided but don’t be so caught up in what everyone else is doing that you miss what he is doing for you. Remember, Patience!
Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
Often times I am asked how I take care of myself by clients because running a business can be challenging with all of it’s demands. When I feel overwhelmed with any tasks, if the space is allowed, I have no problem walking away, regrouping and returning when I have refocused my energy. I have been learning that it’s okay to talk to someone about it. Which sometimes is hard because I like to work things out on my own if I can. If you haven’t noticed yet, prayer is a big part of my life, so most times I pull out my prayer journal and write, it can have the most details or very little. Even, sitting in silence or getting outside is great to get a little vitamin D and fresh air.
Know that you don’t have to get it all done at one time and you don’t always have to do it alone. Systems are great to have in place to assist you with getting tasks completed in a prioritized & timely manner with ease. Ask for help where it is permitted. Delegating can eliminate the feeling of being overwhelmed. Whatever you are overwhelmed with make sure you breathe through it. A couple sets of box breathing is great for the heart and brain.
Being overwhelmed is normal. You just have to find what’s effective for you in those moments. Remember you’re human, not a robot.
